Hello All, does anyone know what the numers stamped into the brass tags of Strombergs on XU-1s mean. I have heard serial numbers ADR compliance. There is 2 distinct sets of numbers, any info appreciated. Sunburst

It is actually stromberg codings to tell you the profiles and series of carb. They used them in teh factory, ie spring colour and tesion, needs, series CD2 etc.

Hi Sunburst,
By the Zenith bible they only refer to them as carburettor reference (cr) numbers and they are 3380 & 3381 for the 150CD`S and 3547 for the 175CD then 3521 for the later 175CD-2S and NO ,I don`t know when they deemed them to become the later and nor do I have any change over dates.Also by this book all carbies from late 71 onwards all had the 6D needles prior to this they have a 6E needle listed.

and they are terribly hard to find.

they came on volvos, jags etc, so if you can find any, you can just restamp them..

Hi

There are 2 numbers on each tag. In my case 2393 and 3547. What they mean is anybody's guess. In any event, I am glad I have mine because a set of 3 sold on eBay for $202 in July this year.

The tags on mine also have a letter stamped on these tags. 2 of the tags have a letter A and the other tag has a B stamped on the tag. As no one else has talked about a letter on their tags, I gather they must have been stamped by previous owner.
