After a lot of searching i have finally found a xu1 petrol tank but it needs a bit of work to bring it up to scratch.
It has dints and a crack in the top section.

Does anyone know of a good place that can clean and repair the tank.

I have seen a few xu1 tanks and they all seem to leak at the seam welds, They are over 30 years old so its expected.

If i didn't want the original look i would have got a alloy drop tank.

Have you tried any radiator repair places? A couple of my mates are in to vintage cars and they get their tanks repaired at radiator shops and none of them have leaked.

Mick.

P.S. I'm in Sydney so I can't recommend anyone in Melbourne.

If it is just a seam leak, try getting a two pot mix tank sealant. Just pour it in rotate it around to coat the inside and it is done. I can not recall the name although I think it was Kreem Coat.

This is not just an amature fix. These products are used to seal aircraft tanks.

I used it some ten years ago on a 1927 chrysler Imperial E80 tank.

If i can't find anywhere that will reco the tank i will attempt it my self and try that sealent that your talking about John.
The only problem is that for the dints it will have to be cut panel beated and re welded again.
This place looks good but in the USA http://www.gas-tank.com/

Hi

About 18 months back 830HP mentioned a good tank repairer who fixed his Bathurst
tank. Its a firm at 47 Holloway Drive Bayswater Ph. 9 762 8722 - sorry I don't know the company's name - the contact is a guy called Simon.

I spoke to Simon at that time about repairing one of my XU-1 tanks and he was suggesting about $ 250 to weld repair and seal. I never got around to having it fixed so I can't vouch for the quality of their workmanship.
830HP should be able to give you an opinion.

Cheers JR.

ps , dont attempt to weld the tank yourself , they go kboom if not carbonised !
