When i first fitted myt rubbers to my hatch i fitted the first one wrong and had another look and then relized what i was doing and now iv fitted them correctly. The only reason why i changed my rubbers was cos i had the car resprayed and just wanted to run new rubbers, the original rubbers were in verry good condition(probly been replaced at some stage) and the doors used to closed excelent.. Now 3 months after the fittment of the new rubbers i went outside and checked my doors.. Well they need to be slammed stil same as when i first fitted them..Even with leaveing the doors shut for 3 months so the rubbers could take shape they still need to be slammed..

Les maybe the rubbers are the same as made for GMH back then but the rubber compound might have been alterd and now a stiffer rubber is being produced, maybe its all in the chemistry of the rubber and not the shape or mould used to make them..

I still need to try the spray Les has mentioned.. And yes im talking LX hatch and rare spares rubbers..

I must admit, I have yet to try the spray as recommended, when my conversions are finished (some months away yet) I will invest in a can :)

Last night I added some alloy shims to my front guards, replaced the broken door seal clips, adjusted the drivers door and sprayed the rubber magic on the seal.

She has been shut up overnight and when I get home this arvo I will see how it works.

The passenger side door is this afternoon's mission. The passenger one was the worst of the 2 doors on mine but I am pretty hopeful after doing the drivers side one.

This is on an LX as well btw.

HB boot rubber would be great as well.
Fairly simple extruded 'foam type' rubber.

On friday Les gave me some rubber magic spray to try on the Lc Gtr and see if it fixes my slaming of doors after fitting the rubbers.

I sprayed the rubber magic all over the door rubbers then shut the doors for 24 hours and it has made a big improvement compared to before.

The doors know shut firm instead of having to slam them shut, The spray seems to have made the rubbers softer.

The reason the doors shut hard after installing the rare spares rubbers is because they are a little thicker on the door pillar then the standard rubbers, This is were the spray makes a big diference in making the rubber softer and compact more.

Thanks as well Les for giving me the spray to try. :D

So the rubbers are indeed thicker - interesting......I will say no more!

Out of curiosity - Is the magic spray some sort of silicone spray?

Just to update on my findings with the Rubber magic - My doors now line up heaps better and havn't broken any of the little plastic clips this time but this was due to the re-alignment of the doors and fitting 2.5mm shims to the front guards- the before and after use of the rubber magic didn't seem to make any discernable difference at all.

I am relatively happy now after the re-adjustment - the doors are still firmer than the original holden ones used to be but much better than they were.
I was going to put 3mm spacers in and adjust the doors out even further but the drivers one is as far as it goes on the bolt holes.

I'll probably put up with it as is for a while but I recon I might fit the spectrum ones next time I have a play around with things to see if they work nicer.
