Does anyone know if this is an easy swap?
Can the same tailshaft be used if you change the front yoke?
How about the xmember ?

block bolt pattern incorrect & turbo i believe takes more HP to run & unless you're shasing the overdrive not worth the hassle

Also some turbo boxes have the long tail, like mine, which requires shortening of the tailshaft, iv been told the short tail boxes dont require any tailshaft mods. the splines are the same as holden.

Whilst we are on this topic, do you need another rear engine mount (transmission mount)? I had a T400 on a 308 many years ago and have forgotten. I can remember though an adapter plate.
Thanks

You will need:
Block redrilled to Turbo Pattern
Slip Yoke
Shorter Tailshaft
X-member
Trans Mount
Converter

It will probably cost around $250 to get the block redrilled as some of the Trimatic holes need to be filled first and the dowells need to be relocated and changed to 1/2". You will need a block with a rope rear seal as the neoprene seal blocks don't have enough meat around the dowells.

The Turbo 400 is still a 3 speed with no overdrive so this conversion would be for strength only. The swap to a Turbo 350 is easier as it uses the same tailshaft and yoke but you still need the block redrilled.

The 350 pan is square with one corner cut off and the 400 pan is shaped like a chicken McNugget.

You may find this link helpfull.
tranny info
Also you will need a cross over uni for the turbo 400 yoke. Unless your are very lucky to find the early HJ t400 yoke.
I did not shorten my tailshaft when i went from trimatic to turbo 400

They make an adapter plate which is about 1/2 inch thick. Then you have to space the covertor the same. They work if you drive like a old lady, they come loose. Buy another block. You can pick up a T350 and a little bigger than a tri-matic, and the T400 looks like it belongs in a truck

I was told that the m20/trimatic slip yoke will fit a th350/th700 but not a th400 as it has a much larger output shaft.

Stay away from tha adaptor plate route unless you have your torque converter made modified to suit. I ran an adaptor plate on my old 2fluffy with Turbo 350. The bolts spacer and nut pulled out the mount on the torque converter and flex plate on 2 out of the three at around 3500rpm on the highway. One came out completly and nearly punched a hole trough the tunnel where my left leg was. The othe two were all cracked and bearly hanging on. If you really want the Turbo box behind your motot you could get the Torque Converter modified/beefed up at the bolt up position.
If your serrious I could dig through all my shit and take some pics of exactly what I mean. What I had done has no chance of breaking and is a great mod as long as you don't want to keep changing converters as it not interchangable.
