does anybody know where is the best place to get a good quality converter to suit 6cyl trimatic with a stall speed of around 1500rpm?

Thanks

I thought standard convertors would have a stall speed of about 1500rpm

Just try a converter shop. I got a 4 cylidner gemini converter done for my torana a couple years ago and it was modified to stall up to 2500 i think it only cost about $270

Andrew, Contact Dave at Queensland Convertors at Stafford on 3356 6066. I have used his convertors before with no problems.

1500 rpm on a converter is lower than standard. Is it for towing or something?

Get a Gemmi converter if you want cheap, they'll stall to around 2200-2500 on a 6 dependant on the torque output.

Otherwise spend the dosh and get a brand new one from Dominator or similar.

How do they work ?
eg. If I have 2500 stall, wouldnt this mean it doesnt hook up till engine reaches 2500rpm ? And on the highway would it always have to be in or above the 2500rpm rev range to be working ? Or have I got this all wrong ?

it works just the same as your standard one, it just slips a little more up the rev range. a little like slipping the clutch when you have a big load, only that it will be slipping constantly under 2000 instead of just off 1000.
