Horses for courses

IE :- If you can afford the full rego and full insurance or at least bomb insurance then by all means do so.

But for me CR is great for wee beastie as there is normally a run going on every weekend either with my club or go with some other club. :spoton:

Me being Events Coordinator with our club, I just bung on a couple of short runs like over to Young (40 min) for ice creams at JD's Jam Factory (Yummeee) or to Wagga (1hr)/Coolac (30 min) for the markets/model trains/picnics etc.

It doesn't take too much of an excuse for us to want to use our cars

Unfortunately I can't afford to have 2 cars on full rego so the above suits me.

Regards..................Barry

Just a bit of info on the scheme in SA. It's called Historic Registration, and it's intended for vehicles which are 'true' to the period, ie pretty much standard.

To get it, you need to be a financial member of a recognised car club (Clubs have to apply to SA Govt for recognition as an eligible Club, and one of the aims in the constitution has to be to preserve the historic integrity of the vehicles). Once a car is inspected and passed by a Club official, it can be registered for a year for around $125, vs around $650 for normal rego. A log book is issued, which allows the owner to complete up to 90 trips in a 12 month period. The trips can be to anywhere, and don't have to be a Club event.

Its obvious advantages are cheaper rego and lower premiums on comprehensive insurance, but the main disadvantage is that the car has to be pretty much stock, with only OEM/Dealer options or changes allowed. No big mags, no CD players, sports steering wheels etc, unless they were a factory option on that particular model. Interpreting this strictly, XU-1, SLR/5000, L34 and A9X replicas are not eligible for the scheme. I have two cars on the scheme, but it would be nice if a few mods were allowed - then I'd have a couple more on it too!

Good one Barry, that should make things clear but I bet it don't ;) lol

As I have said before, Concessional rego has some advantages but if you wanna drive regularly then it can be a disadvantage.

Cheers
Herne
