will a 5 spd gearbox fit around a lj 4 spd console ie will i be able to move it into 5th gear?

Bit hard to say without knowing what box (celica 5spd etc). I think there may be complications with clearance but I'm only guessing.

If it is a celica/supra box, there are different shifter housings and shifters. When you get the right combo the shifter fits perfectly in the original floor cut-out, so I imagine it would be OK through the console as well.
