cam size? exhaust? ignition? head work????

you may as well asked how long a pube is mate....

assuming it's stock, stick wtih the standard stromberg or shove on a ww2 stromberg. don't go wanking around with holleys and shit, wont' work. if it's modded, thast a new pandoras box.

A Varijet has a lot of potential and they're very affordable. I think they just bolt on but I may be wrong...

Assuming it's a std or mild motor then go for the ww stromberg. ($100)
Good balance of performance & economy.

My engine has a decent cam & exhaust.
I had a 350 Holley on mine & went reasonably well once it was set up properly.
You can pick 'em up on a manifold for under $150.
I've changed to triple SU's now & thats another kettle of fish.
If you can set them up for under $500 you're doing well.

I started with Triple CD 150 Strombergs, which were great when they were in tune, but that wasn't often enough, moved onto a 350 holley which needs a lot of stuffing around with the jets......so next up is a 2bbl Stromberg and if that doesn't work fuel injection or sell the car. Everyone has a different opinion on carbs, its trial and error i think or just throw a lot of money at one until it works.

I sold my Triples for $500, which were complete and ready to bolt on, only thing i didn't have was all the set-up for the choke......but depending on what type you want price varies.....look on e-bay for a rough idea.
Wishing I hadn't sold mine now, good power and great wank factor.

I got my SU's off ebay for $240 with the manifold & linkages.
But they needed a total overhaul which I did myself.
Not too much money was needed to overhaul but a hell of a lot of time went into them.
But now that I've tuned 'em properly, going for a drive in the LJ is almost as good as sex.
If you like tinkering & the budget allows, go triples.
My SU's have done about 1000 km's now & haven't gone out of tune (it's a weekend car)
I was told by quite a few people that the SU's held their tune better than cd Strombergs & it looks like they were right. They're a very simple carby so they don't take long to understand.

i agree with the others 350 holleys are not the way forward im running one on my 202 with a 48/88 cam, stock dizzy (which i need a new one(ELECTORONIC) but the bottom end is no where near stock, its really quick and sits you in the seat after about 3000rpm in 2nd gear

thanks for your input guys but due to temporary financial restraints i'll probably be putting a holley on just to get her going and think about triples later on down the track

In Holleys, have a look at the 390 4barrel Vacuum Secondaries.
These run at about 270-290 on the Primaries, until you put the boot in, when the secondaries open.

Quite economical if you can keep your foot off the gas, but its there if you want it.

i had in the past used a 4 barrel rochester on my 202, and l can tell you the roar was magic, bigger roar than the su's that i took off the engine.

It took a lot of mucking around with jets and needles, but once those secondaries open it was like train...

fuel economy was really something else, rather expensive
