"Temple of the gods"

146 Chetwynd St as it looks today, still a mechanical repair shop.

The roller door is covered in graffiti and has been altered.

(The name has been changed to protect the innocent and make me look like a bigger wanker) :spoton:

Thanks for finding this thread for me. I was going to have to search for it..
I have spoken to the buyer of one of the adds featured above. He bought it from WA and had it painted back into the Negus colours. He then sold it back to the bloke he bought it off to fund the purchase of the 78 Brock HDT Hatch.
Pretty sure this Negus car is the one which is raced in the States now by Stubber
It was certainly interesting talking to him about all the cars he has owned over the years.

How it was

After he had it painted.

Kim Sawyer

The Negus car was owned by my old boss (Steve Baxter)
He paid $10k for it in mostly race trim
He then spent abit of money converting it back to a road car and thats how it looks in that pic for sale for $40k
Steve sold it to Kim for about $10k and bought a TR8
Drugs are bad mkay

Kim sold it to a guy in the east who repainted it back to the HDT colours and refitted some of the race components
He then sold it back to Kim who sold it to Paul (Pauls here somewhere and will correct me if I'm wrong anywhere) for cash plus another A9X as part trade
Paul stripped the car within days of owning it and rebuilt it correctly
Right cage. Removed the stupid woodgrain dash and fitted up most of the original race parts. My old boss Steve still had some bits and pieces)

Sadly because the local racetrack is sponsored by Healthways or Quit anti smoking the car was rarely allowed out to play

So Paul sold it to Bill Meekes (or thought he did) Bill was acting as a middle man for Stubber who now has the car
And yes its been racing in USA. I think its actually still over there

Then Paul got hold of the Janson 79 car and restored that lovely beast.
Since it has Schweppes sponsor signage and the local track is sponsored by Coke he wasn't allowed to bring it out much again
I think this is where he lost interest in Toranas and sold them all off
Janson car going to QLD I believe
Valencia hatch going to Melbourne ? (member here)
And Blue sedan with 201km on it going to Biante. Since sold on again.

New owners feel free to correct me where needed
I won't point out who they are ( some people like alittle privacy )

The valencia hatch came back here to Sydney. I believe the guy who owned the Nugus car in Melbourne was the bloke who bought the 79 hatch and onsold it to the Bowden collection years later? Correct me if I am wrong there.
The sponsorship thing is an absolute joke. Hopefully these people will wake up to thenmselves and embrace history one day.

Last time I spoke to Wayne Negus
And he didn't really want to chat about old times as he's over it
He said to me there is some confusion about the woodgrain dash

Wayne had 2 cars
The road going yellow hatch which was factory fitted with T400 auto and aircon. (right Red ?) Also woodgrain dash.
The racecar had the standard silver dash

People get confused between the 2 and thats how the wood dash ended up in the racecar
It was removed and a silver one fitted when Paul had it
I think I recall seeing a pic of the car in race trim in around 180 and it had a silver dash
It also had a silver dash when my old boss owned the car
The guy who bought it off Kim the first time fitted the dash I believe.

Wayne confirmed to me on the phone a couple of years ago it was a silver dash when he raced it

The bloke who bought the Negus car off Kim the first time lives in the south west of the state. He sold it back to Kim in WA as he had purchased the 78 HDT off someone in Mount Gambier. Pretty sure it was the 78 car it was the same one I had seen. Black trim, steering wheel etc,
It sat in Melbourne for a while with the 76 Harvey car and then both cars went up to the Bathurst Museum. Pretty sure it was sold to a Sydney businessman and then off to Bowdens.
When he sold it he suggested to the new owner he pull the motor down as he had seen pics of people leaning over the motor and was concerned that some bits and pieces could have been dropped down the carbies. Maybe this is when the heads and or manifold etc. went missing as the new owner was checking it out.
This is the 78 car when it was owned by Chris Taylor . Not long after these pics were taken it must have been sold to someone in Mount Gambier. I remember in another post gmp&a went through most of the previous owners.

There's another article in a Perth magazine. They had to chop the Marlboro bits as they would have been fined for breaching the tobacco advertising laws.
