hey, i'm shortly going to put a line lock ont the rear brake lines of my torana....

the question is, on the b&m site they say the line lock can be put on at moderate pressures and left. ie works like a hand brake. do yas recon i'd get away with having this set up an d not having a hand brake??? suppose the fact that line locks are illegal might bear on that fact a bit but i'm curious what other peoples thoughs are....

Line lockers are illegal. Not having an operational handbrake is illegal. Smoking dope whilst posting on this forum is illegal.

Line locks rely on hydraulic pressure. Any pressure drop and your car rolls away.

And anybody with that kind of problem would get it fixed immediately.

With the illegal bit I wonder how subaru got away with their "hill holder" which in effect was a line lock operated of the cluch pedal.

They still ran a normal handbrake operated on the calipers or the drums
The hillstop is also cable operated too

Dattoman, If I remember right the cable was from the clutch pedal to a hydraulic valve on the firewall that released the "trapped" hydraulic pressure to the front brakes at the same time friction point was reached at the clutch. Its been a few years maybe you can confirm?

We overhaul the units
I know they are cable and hydraulic.
But never seen one fitted to the vehicle so I'll take your word for it (for now........ haha)

I would not rely on this, but i agree it could be used as an additional hand brake, if got you car in park or in gear, handbrake on and the line locker thingy on! and if u are still worried, chuck a chock under the wheels haha.

lol, definatly not. They are a soloniod and if you read the instrustions it says don't leave on for more than 60 secs. After 60 secs the soloniod starts to overheat and release the pressure. Also being electrically controlled, you'd have to leave your car on accessories to utilise the 60sec handbrake.

If you don't want a handbrake cable your better off carrying a house brick around with you.

and dont they just cut off the pressure to the rear? so to use it as a handbrake, ud have to push the brake pedal in, then turn on the linelocker?

i mean come on, is it really that hard to pull up a handbrake?

oh for bgucks sake guys, my point was that the b&m ones ADVERTISE they can be left on for extended periods of time at low pressures, and i was pondering how much neater the interior would look, and more importantly, how much easyer it would be to run crap under the car without the handbrake and cables.

it has been established it's not a good idea for the street, but for a race ar probably not a bad idea, would work and theres less weight/things to get in the way.

enough of the bgucking bong jokes. im sick of it.
