That is Trevor Talbot in # 76. He's from Cranbourne in Melb.
He has been at the pointy end of Group Nc historics for the past 8 - 10 years in that car.
There is a good write up on the car in current issue ( # 4) of Just Holdens magazine.
He was in the leading 3 places in each Nc race at Phillip Island on 10/11 March.
Its interesting that he is the only XU-1 punter that appears to have gone with the Biante modified rules ( whatever its called ) as well and is still competitive.
Looks like some of the cashed up American iron steerers have gone with the Biante super rules ??? while those punting aussie cars - Toranas, Chargers, fowlcans etc. have stuck with historic Nb / Nc. The Group N fields at Phillip Island were huge and great racing. Hope it stays that way.
Piquet will have a well considered opinion on this I am sure.
Cheers JR.

the whole thing was hijacked by some people with big fat wallets. I am glad that they have gone their own way as they and I include all of them couldn't/wouldn't consider the historic philosophy of what we who wrote the rules and got Nc cars going were trying to emulate.
These guys want better brakes newer parts, lots of other goodies and F*** the historic roots from whence they came.
I understand that Trevor is building a new car to race in the "Biante serioes" and that the freedoms that are allowed will probably put him closer to the front on long circuits as well.
I suppose that the best part of them leaving the 5th category( Historic) is that for them to come back it will be nigh on impossible with out major reengineering of their sports sedans to comply with the Historic regulations. They have already surrendered their Historic log books and they may never be reinstated.
So sink or swim thewy are on their own and to be frank.
Go away go far away and GOOD RIDDANCE
cheers

around in close competition. Stuff the politics of it all.
Sorry I dragged you into this Peter but I knew you had first hand knowledge on
Group N developments and the Biante guys departure.
If the Touring Car Masters thing has given them freedoms to improve brakes & performance it might struggle for a while considering what happened at Barbagallo.
- Small field - total 16 starters - 60 % mexicans
- Only one XU-1 ( Talbot ) who qualified 2nd fastest & placed in 2 of 3 races
and was within 1.5 seconds of winner after 10 laps
- No Stubber competing - why ?
If Trevor Talbot was running his car in Nc specs at Barbagallo then the big capacity competitors have a bit of work ahead to get their performance packages sorted.
I know that it was probably only their second meeting but will their category survive?
Group N certainly doesn't appear to have suffered by their departure judging by the Phillip Island fields. Hopefully its strength will continue with large and diverse fields.
I also recon the Group N replica car arrangement is better than the Group C situation where its restricted to original race cars and the fields are somewhat depleted. I get a bit sick of taking pictures of the same Group C cars at successive historic meetings in Vic.
By contrast there always seems to be newbies trying their luck in Group N.
" Now stumbles off the soapbox."
Cheers JR.

Wish I had said that...
Just trickin Pete..But thats where I was at our last thread..Lets open up Group C to the same replica situation as Group N and watch it GROW!!! BIG TIME! Like JR..I can only see Group C dribbling down to a nothing category with the values going through the roof...Michael T..excepted in the Janson Hatch..( I still cant believe he is punting it out there like a $200 Escort or something! Haha!)

I've already made my feelings clear on the Group C replica thing, so I wont go on about it any more.. other than to say I'd support it if it happened....

Cause of course no LHD Monaros were built for the australian market.....Funny how most stuff out of a LHD Comaro that is a bit suss would fit straight into a LHD HQ but not for a RHD HQ
so the politics have started already.
If your not happy about the small grids of the biante cars let your local promoter know
cheers
