Anyone that remembers clutched autos is really showing their age !!!

As of about 20 years ago technology refined the histall convertor to a point the clutched auto became a dinosaur.

I read about clutches autos in the early 80's. I heard about behind a big block powered Torry that ran 8.52 quarter mile times.

realisticaly, this would give you a semi automatic gearbox yes??? use a clutch to take off and stop but don't have to use it to change gears....like a dog box just cheeper....

thats how my mind fathoms it anyway.

I was just gonna chuck the turbo 350 strait in and when she gets a bit sluggish ill get someone to build it up with better clutch plates etc.

Unless you think i might have a disaster in my hands putting it strait up to 470HP, it was recoed about a year ago. came with a shift kit (probably stage 1, i think rebuilders usually install em when they reco boxes.) replacing the shift kit with a stage 3 transpak and still thinking about what sort of shifter to get but ill probably just settle with a megashifter.

Regards Anthony.

$300+ seems steep for a full manual valvebody... i got one for $200-250 installed (PTC soderstrom in trimatic though...) i'm running a full manual valve body in a trimatic with extra clutches in top (6), chrome moly servo piston, and 2500rpm TCE stall and external trans cooler, its behind a fairly worked 308, heads / cam etc and will easily chirp into 2nd at 3000rpm and upwards if you punch it. i run it as a daily driver, never had a prob although it IS hard on uni joints (my old 6 cyl torana had a similar set up behind it and i fried a few sets of unis but you normally get a bit of warning). theres no lockout on downshifting to first shift at any speed and rpm, although its recommended not to use solely the trans to brake. connecting the vacuum line to the back of the trans will take some of the harshness out of the shift, the harshness of the shift can also be adjusted up or down to some degree by the oil pressure. Ive never run a transbrake though. i found that you have to learn how to drive it though with full manual valvebody, 40kmh into 2nd and 55km/h into 3rd for cruising.

at 470 hp i'd try and find out if the box had hardened gears in it, my v8 trimatic I'm told will handle up to 450hp before hardened gears are a necessity...... its definitely worth trying to find out...

Thats how much 1 is for a t350 from VPW Performance. and a transbrake kit is $1000.

I got told that a T350 can handle about 480-490 before it should need any stronger aftermarket parts, so hopefully it should be ok.

pro ratchet is a lot nicer than a megashifer.

I know but ive cut me hole in me new carpet and it might be too big a hole for the pro ratchet, megashifter might be my only option to make it still look neat (Stupid me cutting such a big hole.) :furious:
