just complete a celica 5 sp conversion today in the lc, went to kick it over after hooking everything back up but nothing happened just that familure sound of the click of the solenoid.

so either my battery has just gone flat over the last week not being in the car or the inhibitor switch/neutral safety swich is causeing some sort of problem. i have the battery charging over night but assuming thats not the problem what should i start looking at? does the column shifter need to be in a particular position so ignition thinks that its in neutral?

bridge the terminals on the switch just in case it is that and try again after your battery has charged, but it shouldnt be flat if you disconnected it! :tease:

If you can hear the solenoid clicking then you have power running to the starter. To be sure just hold the key on as you move the column around & you should hear it click on & off (or start) as you pass through the contact.

charge your battery.

P.S. put a switch on the old safety wires, hide it and use as a kill switch.

fingers crossed its just a flat battery as i hate electronics, prefer nuts and bolts anyday! but i wouldnt think the battery would be that flat after only 7 days.

so if i hear the click of the solenoid then its not the switch?

just have to cross my fingers then

p.s where exactly do i start looking for this switch and whats it look like?

On top of the column near the firewall is the combination reverse light/neutral safety switch.

Unplug & join the 2 purple wires to defeat the switch. Disconnect the purple wire from the starter motor & use a test light to check the start circuit.
