ok its 1;23am
ive been wiring my msd and its not sparking

the msd unit has switched 12v and main power

as it was it had wires running to each side of the coil and then from there they ran to the electronic dizzy.

now i run the violet and green wires from the msd direct to the dizzy wires
the orange and black from the msd to the coil

as far as i can tell thats righ but i have sweet fa spark lol.

someone set me straight ;)
cheers leigh

have you got got a full 12v at the coil, or are you still using the resistor wire?
i would look at bypassing the resistor wire if you are
cheers

ok the msd relies on the trigger wires to tell it when to spark.
this happens when the connection between the 2 trigger wires is broken.
i just tested the wires coming out of the dizzy and they do not flow current at all so there is no way they can break the current if they wont flow it in the first place.

im confused at how to trigger this msd

sounds like a nackered dizzy to me. have you got another one to try? even a points dizzy?

also, if you havnt already, rip the moduel off the side of it, just bypass it. msd dosent need it.

You are using the wrong trigger wires on the MSD. You only use the violet & green wires if you are connecting directly to the magnetic pickup. If you are connecting it to the output of the ignition module you need to use the white wire.

If you connected the module (the wires that used to go to the coil) to the violet & green wires there is a good chance you have blown the MSD. To check if the MSD still works, bridge the voilet & green wires and it should fire.

its an electronic dizzy with a module inside which i have now bypassed.
it has 2 wires, one green and one light brown.

if i was to use the points style trigger where would i run the white wire to ?

If you have bypassed the module use the violet & green wires. The white wire is used to trigger off the module.

If it fires when you manually trigger it while it is wired to the car then your problem must be the signal from the distributor. The only wires connected to the dizzy should be the violet & green wires connected directly to the magnetic pickup. Check the connections with a multimeter, if they are OK then the pickup in the dizzy is probably stuffed. Check it with the multimeter, if it is an open circuit it is rooted.

Errr, have you still got power to the msd when the engine is cranking? Sounds like you don't.

Yeh might be simple but perhaps check your 12v source.
