go to a CAMS lecture night, that was given by a race driver, learn the flag
rules etc.
Then go out on an observed day where you were lectured and the car scrutineered
I had my mates LJ XU1 sports sedan, which at the time was the fastest 6 cylinder
S/sedan in NSW.
Out on the circuit for a practice session, then when we come in all the cars
are put into different catagories, and if you did anything wrong or not completely
right, you would be told how to correct it, they had observers taking notes all around the circuit.
Then a race, and after that you are spoken to again and hopefully given a "P"
CAMS licence which you had to get signed after so many races.
If it has changed I would love to know, thanks.

Including a medical too
We are talking about a 2S licence
Which is a "speed" licence
Essentially allowing you to compete against the clock in hillclimbs and sprints but not allow you to race other cars in competition
Hence the easier way to get it and lower cost

I mailed off a cheque today that gives me club membership, cams licence and entry to a Sandown event. The forms were sent via e-mail.When I got my CAMS licence about 20yr ago, (it has lapsed years ago)you had to join a club,
go to a CAMS lecture night, that was given by a race driver, learn the flag
rules etc.
Then go out on an observed day where you were lectured and the car scrutineered
I had my mates LJ XU1 sports sedan, which at the time was the fastest 6 cylinder

Apparently all I do now is turn up on the day.

MG club is my club too - Have you been up to check out their Hillclimb track at Ringwood (Raymond Terrace)?
I'm hoping to re-debut the LJ at the CSCA Sprint at Eastern Creek on 12 May...maybe I'll see you there? This will be my first sprint too... I have only done the King Edward Park hillclimb in the torana, but did a few ringwood hillclimbs in my wifes laser before I got the LJ.

Apparently a National Rally license is the minimum requirement now.
More money to CAMS i guess.

I was looking at the write up on their ringwood track the other night. There is a meet there later this month im pretty sure. But yeah im fairly keen, we will have a bit of an original car too, gunna build up the four door i have sitting in the yard. Commodore rear LSD, commodore front brakes, stich welded chassis and front crossmember. To start with im just gunna do some home repairs body wise then we are gunna just GMH-black the whole car and go have some fun.
Then later on as in like end of year, Half cage, might even leave the commo brakes till then,
Motor will be a mild 202, 60 thou out, ported head, big jetted WW 2 barrel carby, custom exhaust. BIG camshaft.
and i will be debuting my new grid girl/girliefriend hopefully.
fingers crossed for me

The car has been dragged from the corner of the yard, a front end has been built, a motor is waiting with webers hanging off it.
After i finish my GFs corrolla it will be full steam ahead.
We are currently in the process of building a street stocker (VR calais, cage is half done and engine is being built) but the torana will be the prime focus. The missus;s rolla is at the panel beaters ATM, so it whould be back next week painted, then a week to get it back together, then its on to the torana.
Needs to following things-
front floorpans
lower sill on DS
lower sections of rear 1/4s
rust around windows.
other then those rust spots it is reasonable.
Plans are to spray the engine bay, get the engine/brakes/driveline in and get it mobile first. then move on to the body.
First SS meet is in 8 weeks at oran park i think... dont think we will make it, but hopefully nothing goes wrong this time around.

My car was going to be ready by March.......2007. March 2008 isn't looking too promising either at this stage!!! Maybe March 2009!
I'm having so much fun building it, I'm scared it's going to be an anti-climax racing it (but I don't think so).

But we have actually made a start now.
So in a week and a bit our panel beater mate will be finished on the girlies car, then he takes possession of the rana a week after that.
then the fun starts!!

I give my old boy a day to put the front end together once it is painted.
We have a motor built and ready to go + a 4 speed box, so we will bolt that to the front end with some wheels+LH brakes (maybe a full saturday to reco brakes etc) Then drop it underneath using the two poster.
Then it is onto body work once it is moveable!

We had the engine bay all ready to paint, and thought we would investigsate the rust in the rear quater and front guards....
lets just say, one hit and the car would crumble! (not that we are planing on hitting anything) so after fixing a buttload of rust in one side, we have given up on the 4 door.
But we now have an LC GTR shell..... time will tell what we will do, but the GTR could turn into quite the project.
So all in all, its a good thing and a bad thing!

The four door is going to be primered and sold.
The GTR is going to be restored.
We now have a flared 2 door LJ with very little rust to use for the racecar.
Has a period alloy cage with it (i know it doesnt mean much as it is only alloy, but it will do for now)
So hopefully we can keep this onelong enough to do some racing! engine, box and front end are ready, diff is ready, all we need now is the shell to be ready!
