Production date is 20-10-69, dealer code 000, no sales date listed, i'd say GTR

Hey mate, I know the car, I nearly bought it a couple of months ago... It is not real. the numbers dont match.. The seller is heath rickett, obviously your in nz. the car does have an xu1 block, at best its a gtr mocked up..... send me your email adress and i can forward you further info...The guy is dead set thats it an xu1, unfortunately it is not, its a bitsa, beware. this is the last email correspondance i had with the seller....fyi, he had accepted my offer of 23k NZ dollars.... about $2 sussie dollars!!!!lol

Heath,

I have received some further inofrmation today on a couple of posts I had put on forums and phone calls i had made last week. I spoke to the 2 previous owners of the vehicle. The guy you bought it off, had little idea of its history, as he bought it as it is today, and spent a few grand tidying it up. the original owner who first registered the vehicle, tells me it was made up from a bare shell, using numerous parts. So unfortunately, it is not an XU1, though it does have a fair few XU1 parts. I think to verify if the body is for sure you would need to locate the chassis number and decode it using the following article: http://home.exetel.c...the numbers.pdf
this article clearly shows that even the two tags you have are not XU1 tags, most likely it is a GTR.
Of course therefore I do not wish to purchase the vehicle, and given their value now, anyone who makes enquiries will probably come to the same conclusion I have. Nonetheless you only paid 8k for it, and thats not too bad for a mock up....If you want to sell it anyway id be prepared to pay around 10k for it.
Sorry about the stuff around but i needed to be sure. If you would like to discuss further feel free to give me a call. If you dont want to halve your price i understand..... and good luck with the sale.

GTR-1 PM me if you want further info, I purchased the VIR from your transport authority an actually spoke to the previous owner.....can forward it if you want the info..

Adam

According to the Holden records, this car is a GTR, not XU1. It was built on the 20-10-69. The engine that is in it at the moment is not the original engine. It was an export car but the records do not state when it was sold or by who.

Even the engine might be a bit suspect, the head part number I got of this car is 7429461. "ck spec" engines had the head part number 2822072

Yup. No ADR tag.
I have been told be a couple of other people that all cars shipped to NZ from new never came with this tag.

I also e-mailed you about sending me that info on Heaths GTR car.

Nope. No holes. But then again a welder can easily take care of that and the engine bay did have a paint job at some stage.

Overall the car is not a bad looking waggon, it's in pretty good nic, no rust at all which is an added bonus.

The body number on the tag is 20239B and the number stamped into the lefthand side of the engine bay (near the air filters) is LC20239B

If this car was assembled in Sydney (H6)
Why does the body number indicate a Brisbane car? (20239B) isn't that what the B stands for?

because Brisbane is the body manufacturing plant hence the B & sydney H6 was the vehicle assembly plant. thats all sweet & they are similar in number sequences to the undisturbed tags on my 4/70 gtr. They will be a matching pair of tags even if they have been rerivoted. however that stamped chassis no by carbs should be around LC07***B & would NOT be similar to the body # on the paint tag at all. if it had had an ADR tag it too would be LC07***B but most NZ toranas were not fitted with ADR as NZs primitive rego system didnt req this. ( & it cant be returned to & rereg in aust without )
