Hi Guys.

In regard to the ADR Compliance plates, they were not fitted until 1/1/70, so any genuine '69 Torana won't have one.

AFAIK all Holdens built in Australia, then exported to NZ do have Compliance plates (after 1/1/70), but NZ assemled Holdens do not, because they're not required in NZ anyway.

Cars built in Australia for export to most other places, e.g. Fiji, South Africa etc don't have Compliance plates.

Dr Terry.

adl built , on the 18-8-71, sold 12-71 by dealer 554, phantom gray, and the engine number is correct.

the first car you asked about was daytona bronze, ck was a bathurst motor, built late 69, with no adr tag and should of had frount bump stops on the under gaurds.

mrnos, can you show me a 1969 xu-1??? that my freind would be good to see.

cheers the gong

The thing that everyone missed???
When was the last time you saw an XU1 with the VIN plate fitted to the passenger side next to the build plate?
That was a 69 thing. Very early ..

The plum dinger purple lc gtr xu1 in the old holden adds-going around the holden test track-its a 69model, how do I know? Well that car was for sale as a rolling shell on ebay about 3 years ago, Hg350 confirmed the numbers/tags and build date on it for me...sadly the numbers were confirmed after the car sold on ebay, it was listed as just a GTR not a xu1, and at the time I didnt know enough about xu1's to confirm what it was, it was sold for under $3500

sorry to be so up frout, but show me a pic of this with a tag and i will then eat my words, as i truely beleave that there was no xu-1s until the 28-7-70, and forsure not a plumdiner. SO SHOW ME THE MONEY.

I didnt keep the pics of the tags as it was pointless, ive been told it was 1 of 3 press cars that were an early release, 1 plum dinger, 1 white-i'm assuming kasmir-it was also on ebay about 12months after the plum dinger 1, and it was also reported to be the 1st xu1 built, and the 3rd 1 I dont have any details on, I know what details I was given on the plum dinger 1, and it was confirmed by some1 who has plenty of knowledge in that area as they have more than the common vin cd's that are doing the rounds, all 3 cars didnt come with adr tags, as for proof I know what I was told-by more than 1 person- thats good enough for me, what you believe is up to you doesnt bother me as I didnt end up with the car which is a shame as I wouldve bid more on it had I known what it was at the time, but shit happens...., the guy who bought the plum dinger sure knew what it was though

well mrnos i think this is pointless, mabe hg350 can back up your story, i myself dont think its true in any way shape or form, but hey thats just me.
but then you came out and say there was a white one aswell, that i dont think so, because the white xu-1s wasnt untill 71, mabe you have that colour mixed up ??,
anyway it the true info im arfter other than that its all of no use.

cheers john

^^^^True to form, more misinformation  !

MRNOS, is this the 69 car you are talking about http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2359150 ?? He says its a 70 car but he also says its the one in the ads.

Ill second your story about HG350. They do have access to more information than just the stuff on the CD. Considering what I learnt from them (about numbers and fakes) before I bought my 70 car, I would be very surprised if any of what they said was wrong.

Dont know where the guy on cardomain got the idea that he owns the press car from the old holden add, the guy who bought it off ebay knew what it was and-from what ive been told-its getting done back to original and it was only a rolling shell with no interior or running gear and was in primer when it was on ebay, the guy who had for sale didnt know what he had until after it was sold, what I was told was it was built late 69, and was not sold or available to the public and was only used for testing by newspaper and magazine people, and it was 1 of 3 cars released-as press cars- before the official release of the lc xu1 in 1970. As for finding out more about it, I couldnt be bothered, I dont own it, dont care about it, and I dont want to get into a constant-he said, she said-on here about it...I was given info on it at the time I was looking at buying it by a reliable person in the know, thats good enough for me, if it was sitting in my garage and some1 was doubting the year it was made in I would go into its history more, but its not so I wont :D

wasn't it the first gtr out of adelaide that sold on ebay some time ago.
as a rolling body shell. maybe it got sold before auction finished?
I thought it was a bargain!
maybe it is a different car.

so which state had the first GTR assembled?
