I tried to scan the one in the UC owners manual, but it didnt come up well.
Best I describe it: it is AM only, has five push buttons below an am band cut into an aperture on the dash, and has two knobs either side, one with a pic of a quaver(music note) on it(most likely worn off by now) It is installed on the very top row of the centre console
The one that knoath has a pic of, is not the one supplied for a SL torana, it is the am/radiocassette unit that was supplied standard on the sl deluxe model or perhaps as an option and was installed in the console below the heater outlets. When this option was selected the top row of the centre console was left with the cut out.
I do have one of the original sl radios at another location, but wont be going there for a few days to take a pic.

Here is a pic of the radio in my UC. Not sure if original or not. Seems to be a Clarion.

Interesting Big T, yes your unit looks much like the original.....but different and they certainly didnt carry the Clarion name. Actually all am radios from the era looked basically like that. The power aerial switch suggests it may have been factory, though the ashtray(for what that is worth......) suggests your Sunbird is an S model which would have had to have a radio ordered through the dealer, though there were changes through the Sunbird line in standard equipment levels when the sle was introduced.

Here's the radio out of my UC.
Devil's Advocate is correct. It was installed in the lower front console, in front of the gear shift, below the heater vents.
My UC is a SL Deluxe. So this may have been the optioned up version (note the built in cassette player)

Hope this helps one way or another. :spoton:

uc8uG69 says its an S model Torana, gu4 says its a 3.08 diff and L20 is a 6cyl, m40 trimatic. Though guessing L20 is a 202 since it has the 3.08diff.

So the radio was most likely fitted after the factory. Dont know about the sunbird ashtray......

Will chase up that original radio, hopefully it is still in the rafters of the garage where I put it 15 years ago!

Yep, that's the one that came in my UC SL Hatchback. It was part of the $390 "Deluxe Option Pack".
