hey guys,on my car.the brakes are crap at the moment!!
the pedAl is going straight to the floor and if i push hard enough the car can stop but not easliy,i noticed if i pump the brakes a lot while driveing they get slightly better and can stop and then go bad again and have to go through the same thing again..they were all fine till last week we had a hot day and a lot of start and stop driveing in traffic then gone bad.is there air in the lines?or is there a leak or maybe the booster/master cylinder?

cheers

Probably the first thing i would do is check for any leaks in the system, if you remove each wheel and check to make sure there is no brake fluid leaking from either of the front calipers as well as the wheel cylinders on the rear drums...

Leaking diaphram/seal in your master cylinder. Poor Ole Laser is doing the same at the moment.

Number of things to mention.

1. How old is the fluid. if you do nto know wise to bleed and change fluid. water in fluid will make brakes spongey
2. leaks. Common leaks are in rear pistons for drums, rear hose from diff to body, front hoses from caliper to hard line, master into booster. The first thing to check is whether you are loosing fluid.
3. Hoses old and fractured internally. This is what happens usually when the inner hose separates from the outter or fractures. basically what happens is the flexible lines become buldgy and thus do not have enough force to work the calipers.
4. use vise grip gently on teh flexible lines around the car to find whether it is isolated to one corner or the back etc.
5. if running rear drums make sure the shoes are adjusted correctly.

Cheers

If you have drums on the rear adjust them up first. Then bleed the system using new clean fluid, (no not beer silly, brake fluid), start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder, (left rear) then right rear, left front and lastly right front. If there are no leaks, (they will be fairly obvious with all the pumping) that should bring the pedal up and it should stay there.

I always bleed my brakes with beer. Drink a beer, bleed the front. Drink a beer, bleed the rear. Drink another beer and get somebody else to test drive it, because by that stage I'm over 0.05!

Its a real bugger if you mix up the beer and the brake fluid though................

Go get your self a reco or new master cylinder, brakes arnt worth the risk to save on money..
One thing iv noticed with brakes in my past 15 years of mucking around with cars is "BRAKES HAVE A TENDANCY TO FAIL WHEN NEEDED MOST"

Probably a number of things it could be
I'd be looking further down the system myself for other issues
Leaks, lack of adjustment in the rears, swollen hoses, dodgy prop valve
Before I touched the master again
