they work normally otherwise?, they go from on the plenum grille back on to the screen and then behave normally and just do the downwards dive after switching them off?

No idea atm, could it be the wiper motors are turning in the wrong direction.

Something is out of phase. Take the arms off. Run the wipers and then park them. Then fit the arms and see if this helps. Did your motor come with the crank arm or did you fit your own? From memory the arm is marked to the spindle at the motor.

i will have a stab, is the motor running backwards?

You have the arms off now whilst testing to save any damage?

yeah the motor is running correctly, the wipers work fine in operation, its only when you turn them on again for the first time that they drop down for the first initial arc

Might be a park switch issue within the motor.

im not sure about late model torrys, but are the wipers the same as LJ?? on LJ the wiper arms sort of slide over a splined "knob" on the cowl panel, when i had this problem, i simply took the wiper off when at its lowest point, and then moved it round a couple splines, and this stopped it from moving too far down. if that makes sense.

OK, ive worked it out, the main drive in the motor had to much play in it, causing it to go downwards when the motor was first switched on then it would go up, obviously the chrome plater has left a part out, so i made a bronze bush to fit under it to keep it tight, now its all good, thanks everyone for your input
