Where did you hook the wire up to trigger the tacho from?

If it has a switch it shouldn't need a resistor. Has it been laying around in the shed for a while? Flick the switch a few times to "freshen up" the contacts. Re-check all your connections.

the contacts seem fine there is a definate change in revs when i switch from 4 to 6 to 8 it has been in my room for ages.... connections still all seem good a mate said it may be the condensor on the distributer? i also used slightly thicker wire from the end of the tacho wires could this be a problem???? doing my head in!!

There was a thread on this ages ago, can't remember the fix though.

Have a search.

I think that was aftermarket electronic though? Try the condenser, H.E.I makes the tacho do funny things just before the module dies sometimes.

i had that issue with autometer, but put a variable resistor inline and turned it up until stopped bouncing and all fixed now, I went through thinking it was a bad earth from somewhere but nothing. I am running HEI too.

What does the tacho misbehave(bounce) on the 4 and 8 cyl positions as well?

Sorry to steal the thread,
Im having a problem with my SLR cluster tacho, when i first started my engine it was reading good, my autometer was a little more accurate though, then one day it stopped working, Now all of a sudden its working again but about 300Rpm diff to my autometer.

How accurate are the the SLR clusters, all the wiring is new behind the dash so im assuming its not the problem, assumptions are the mother of all @^&$ UPS!

Cheers

my LJ GTR cluster tacho has had a slight bounce for ages, only over like 3500, i just live with it, the speedo bounce is the bigger pain in the ass!
