G'day
Is there a difference between 72 gtr dash facia and 73?
Does anyone have a photo of a 73 facia they can post?
Thanks ~ Peter

Hi Mr Magoo.

AFAIK, the main differences (if you're referring to just the instrument facia) would be the metric speedo & the re-positioning of the handbrake light.

Hi

The pic below is a '72 dash. The 73 was fitted with the 4 screws method but had a brake fail light added and mph/kph speedo. The arrangement of the gauges and fitting method was different on the LC model.

LJ mounted with two screws in the lower edge where the LC used clips on the inner lower face with two screws vertical as also in the LJ

I believe the location of insrtuments, though themselves unchanged, were reranged.

I would say the Ks speedos came in in mid 73 LJs. I have a 5/73 with a MPH speedo.

The instrument binnacles on the 73 models has no silver trim around them
It has the silver on the outside border only.
I'm not sure of the preduction date when this started.
! have 2 73 cars and both are the same.
John.

Hi Peter,
2 cars are 9/73 and 11/73
Both dashes are identical.

Hi Mr Magoo

It seems to me that there are a lot more LC and 1972 LJ facias offered on eBay than the '73 type pictured. Both of Lone Oranger's cars are late '73 so perhaps the change was introduced later in the year in which case the "'72 type" may be correct for yours.

Obviously GMH wouldn't make the change on the 1st Jan 1973 and throw out all of the remaining '72 parts including wiring looms.

If would be interesting to hear from any '73 owners with '72 type facias.

Does anyone have a LJ XU1 with a Kilometer (KM) only speedo and what is the month/ year of the car? I get the impression these speedos are not that common and must have come out in last few months of production.

Having worked at a Holden dealer from 69 to 74,
I can tell you that the model changes usually occured from July to September.
e.g. introduction of different colours, engines, trim, mouldings, minor face lifts etc.
So it's possible that a 7/73 could have the same dash as a 11/72
Perhaps others can post pics of their Month of 73 dash facias.
John.

Hi Tim

As also suggested by LoneOranger ie. can anyone show pics of early '73 LJs that are fitted with what is generally considered to be a '72 facia (one brake light and full silver trim and MPH speedo)

I've seen this thread start up before and noticed that consensis is that the lc gtr only ever had MPH on face.

I just unrolled my dash and it is dated 2/71 but shows 200 kph and 120+ inside.

It doesn't appear to have been tampered with but is it possible that the face was changed years ago or they did show both (kph/mph) back then.

Definitely some abnormalities here.
Typical of most car companies in the 60s and 70s
Here is a pic of a speedo dated 7/71 in my 9/71 LC

I think the change to Kph speedos came with the orange blinkered LJ.

Hi

I agree 100%. Both my 10/72 clusters have MPH only.

OK Peter,
A little more info.
As indicated by 73LJWhiteSL, Not all '73 dashes have kph speedos.
They must have started with the orange Blinker LJ variants.
Now, I'm curious if any LJs had KPH only speedo faces.
But they did have no silver trimming around the binnacles early in 1973.
following are some pics of some other GTR dash facias.
They are
3/73 No Silver Trim. MPH Speedo Face and additional brake warning light
6/73 No Silver Trim. MPH Speedo Face and additional brake warning light
5/71 LC has silver trim and MPH Speedo Face. Handbrake light only.

Also have been meaning to mention the 1973
Tacho also has repositioned RPM X 100
It would be interesting to know the change over date for the Non silver lined dashes, and change of Tacho, along with repositioning of guages.
