Hi does anyone know if the gearbox shifter from a 71 xu1 is the same as a standard lc or lj fitted with M20.
Are they still available repro and has anyone got a picture of one so i know what to look for.

Thanks

Hi boynuz

The picture below is the correct shifter for the GTR/XU-1 M20 or M21 Aussie 4 speed.

It does not fit the Opel 4 speed that was fitted to the majority of LCs. I understand that from mid 1971 LCs were fitted M20 or M21 Aussie 4 speeds.

Hi boynuz

The one in the picture is used. I cleaned it up and had the stick re-chromed. Rare Spares have a repro one - but they are about $400.

Used ones come up on eBay from time to time and go for around $150 - $180.

If you are not worried about originality almost any Aussie 4 speed shifters will fit eg LH or LX. Most other sticks are straight and sometimes hit the handbrake lever. I never found it to be a problem though, I only got this one for originality.

Try posting in the Wanted section of these forums that's where I got mine.

Did they still use exactly the same center console and boot as used with the opel shifter with no fouling problems?

Hi smeer

As I recall the LC (Opel) console has an offset hole and a different boot and trim. I think you can convert an LJ to LC but not vice versa, because of the offset hole goes into the trim area.

yeah,
I just did some browsing, apparently the LC's that came with the aussie box were the 179 model. They also came with an LJ console with a 4 speed gear knob.
can anyone confirm?

Hi smeer

I think you mean 173

Re Console:

LC owners might argue that LJs came out with late model LC consoles :D
