I have some alternators laying around and was wondering if there is an easy way with a multi meter that i can bench test them without actually having to install them on a running motor?

there are a few static tests that you can do to check the output diodes and windings are in order, but I think you really have to set them up on a bench with a battery, variable load and something to spin em with if you are going to know whether the regulator and commutator rings are working properly.
