What the hell has happened.

Springs were V8, front end changed to UC. I was told it would drop once all panels, radiator etc went back in. WELL she is stayin on tippee toes. But I wont have a scraping issue.

I am seriously thinking of gettin some nobbly tyres and go hill climbing.

On top of that, the air cleaner hits the bonnet :fool:

yeah well I suppose I am used to seeing her with lowered 6cyl ones.

Is that seriously how high they sit on standard springs ?

Is cutting springs Ok ?

How much and which end ?

dont cut the springs kaz, lowered ones are cheap.

also, if there brand new, try driving with them for a little while. springs sag rather quickly when there new. not that much though.

The front suspension will not drop until you roll the car forward or backward as the tyres need to move sideways when the suspension lowers.

What sort of air cleaner do you have?

that's too high for standard and did you use right engine mounts or have you got different inlet manifold on it?
I have one sitting at depot in hahndorf if you want to campare/measure was 6cyl converted to 8 with 4spd

# standard dinner plate air cleaner.

# torrie engine mounts

# used springs

The motor sits very low in the engine bay, lots of clearance below heater box.

Gone from 6cyl column auto, to 8cyl column auto.

Check that the springs are sitting in the retainers in the cross member.
My LH sat pretty high on one side and it was just that the spring was not sitting completely in the correct place in the cross member.

Otherwise, you may have been sold the wrong springs.

As bomber says, don't cut them, buy lower ones. I beleive that cut springs are a defectable offence here in SA, if not the whole country.

There are several styles of bottom plate for the typical aftermarket air cleaners. You will find some styles lower the air cleaner by about an inch when compared with others. It is difficult to explain, hopefully someone will post a picture.

If you order new springs make sure you give the measurement you want from the top of the wheel arch to the center of the wheel to avoid dissapointment.

Sounds like you have an air cleaner where the base plate is flat and level with the top of your carby.
You need one where the base plate drapes over your carby. This will allow you to run large filters without problems. My old 4door had a massive thick/high air filter with no hole in the bonet and cleared no probs.
I have attached a photo of the engine in the old hatch to show how the carby is hardly visable with the drape over base plate.
