What was the original factory method of fixing the lower area of the handbrake cover?

Was it some sort of surround? Or just the carpet?

Mine is a mess and want to tidy it up.

Thanks,

Craig.

Pretty sure it just sat underneath the carpet...

Pretty sure that it has a wire base that is screwed to the floor and the carpet sits next to the vinyl. Haven't had one on mine for nearly four years. Something else for the shopping list.

Thanks for the replies.

Mine is just tucked under the carpet but keeps working its way out so I was hoping that there was something missing similar to the retainer mentioned.

Cheers,

Craig.

All of the LC torana range handbrake covers just tucked into the side of the carpet.
The LJ covers were designed differently and had a long tail on the back which was glued down on the tunnel and also the sealbelt bolt went through the middle.
I also have the genunie GMH patterns and the correct vinyl to make exact copies of these if anyone is interested.

how much to make me one a handbrake cover to suit lj, we dont have any of those so if your offering

and also if you got them..gear shift cover suit lj...vinyl doesnt matter as they will be used as a template, so even the cheapest vinyl you got would be good

:D

The handbrake covers are $30.00 each and the shifter boot i do for $25.00.
'As mentioned before i do have the genuine GMH patterns and use the correct stitch spacing and thread.
I can also do the opel gearbox shifter boot.

Lc870, thank you but thats too expensive, im not concerned about stitch spacing and thread, or even vinyl, they can be made from canvas

im using it as a pattern to sell our own....

orangelj, would it be possible to organise something with those original patterns you got, even it you sent them to me them i copied them and sent them back?

or if you made a pattern for me and sent it,

yeah i will see what i can do, we put the new boot in last night, the old one doesnt have the "tail" people mentioned that went down to the seatbelts, but it was glued in around the edges, and from what we know was factory like it.

good luck with it.

Hi

If the handbrake cover was under the carpet and fixed to the floor in some way - how do you adjust the handbrake without it being a major operation?

Just a thought.

wasnt like permanently glued, looked like some form of contact adhesive. and how often do you adjust your handbrake??

that contact adhesive stuff stays fairly maleable for ages, so it can be pulled up and stuck down (although not as efective as the first ime) a few times.

im not saying it was factory, but definitely looked it, the car has been off the road since 1982.

Obviously couldn't confirm the glued/not glued, but every unrestored car I saw at the AHD today had this type of trimming around the handbrake area. This included LC's and LJ's with original carpet.
