Black engine bay

Hi all,

Was the LH Slr the only car with a factory black engine bay?

Were any LX SS hatches painted black from the factory?
(engine bay that is)

Also, black around tail light area, windows. Was this matt black?

The early LX SS hatchbacks had a black engine bay. Most likley GMH Black. The early ones were made in 1975 so explains why they are the same as the LH.
My old June 76 SS hatch was factory black engine bay.
The black around the windows and rear panel is Tuxedo Black. Superceded by Midnight Black.
The tail lights are not quite matt but perhaps a satin. Guessing but i would say GHM Black Again. Perhaps someone else knows for sure.

I think alot of Holden engine bays were black my LX Hatch has a black engine bay and my HJ Kingswood engine bay is black to.

Still keen to hear a little more on the subject.

I wonder why some were and some weren't?
Not the sort of thing offered as an option I would think.

They came and went.
So had black engine bays, some had body colour.
My 76 Sedan has body colour, as does a 75 hatch I have seen.

Dunno if the new or the old forums but we went over this for all the models (body black that is). There is alot of variations between the different models on body colour, from SL, S, SL/R, SL/R 5000 to L34. All LH's and early LX's had matt black engine bays. Later LX's had body colour engine bays.
