mate i would not go passed a performer these are some cars i know with them

my lc std stroke 308 / 286 6500rpm 12.1 @112
mates lh std stroke 308 /288 7500+ 11.8@112
mates vk std stroke 308 / 288 7500+11.2 @118ish
so they work on 308s
and 1 quick lj sherry is a mate of mine and that blue lj runs mid 10s these days

Dont mean to steal the thread here but with those times are you all running slicks? and that is a edelbrock performer you are talking about?

Thanks again guys for your advice. I decided to go with the most popular recommended manifold the Edlebrock Performer. I didn't get time to match port it before the Eastside Cruisers's dyno day yesterday as I only bought it last week and finished bolting the engine back together yesterday morning before the event. The result was a 151.8rwkw dyno run :( 20+rwkw less than with the modified factory manifold. I believe this will improve dramatically as Eric said it was running very rich and that changing the manifold would cause this, so with a tune and after I get around to match porting it all should be good.

Ok Guys, I have removed the manifold to match port it and opening up the plenum a bit. Any do's or don'ts I should know about when it comes to taking a grinding bit to a Performer??

I thought I would give you guys some feed back on my final results of the manifold upgrade. I did match port the manifold and had it dyno tuned again with the Quady attached, the final figure was 187rwkw on Goodguys Performance's dyno, which was good enough to push the SS down the 1/4 for my first 12 second pass.

Thanks again for your advice. My next step is to fit my 650 Mighty Demon and 1" spacer then see how she goes.

If you can dig up an old "power games" article from Street Machine in the mid 80's they tested the Edelbrock manifolds and the factory Holden ones. Funny enough the pre ADR27A manifold (HT-HJ, LH and early LX) worked better on the 308 and stroked 308 (327) than the torker for hp and torque, and it was almost as good as the Edelbrock performer.

Good work Grant. Congrats again on the 12.

The next interesting test will be to see what the Demon carb does.... with and without the spacer. You should get Eric to print out back to back dyno sheets for you, so you can analyse the data in your own time. I'm looking forward to that report. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Demon too. A fully tuned up Quaddy is a good bit of gear, but will the Demon make it breath fire??!!

I'll do that Brett, it will be very interesting to compare with and without your spacer and also the difference between the two carbys. All I need to do is sort out this air bleed issue. Yes Brett, I still have not been provided with a replacement air bleed from Chris Mills Performance yet, it has been a very frustrating situation.

i would look into the torque power high rise duel plane i no a guy that just changed to one and said he picked up every where and he dyno tested torker, performer and torque power single plane. torque powers imo are without doubt the best manifold on the market. they are a bit pricey but u get what u pay for. oh and just so u no the next closet manifold on the dyno was torque power single plain.
