As far as having a concourse or restored or original unrestored or any bloody thing really, you will always get some peanut :fool: who will say this or that is wrong with the car.

Quotes I have had :-

1/ That's not a GTR 'cause it has side badges :wtf:

2/ They are not GTR rims 'cause all GTRs had nibless rims :shoot:

3/ That's a fancy steering wheel there! What car did it come off :banghead:

Reminds me of a Split Enz song....... I see red I see red I see red

Verdora Green, you do what you like and enjoy your car as you are the only one who has to like it.

Isn't it great we have such fantastic forum members :spoton: Other-wise it would be a dull ol' website.

Thanks Guys,

It's great to get so many opinions & points of view on this subject . It's just
that I consider this as my last attempt at restoring and owning a classic car
and I don't want to get it wrong .

You are right "it is only me that has to like it " but I guess we will all have to
put up with the odd uninformed comment like those in Barry's last post.

My goal is to have my GTR in its classic form ,ie (only Red motors allowed)
but add a few reversable personal touches.

Anyway the comments on this forum have convinced me to give Verdoro
Green a fair go before I expore my list of favorite colours.
Such things as (quoting panel beater) "Resale RED" & Lina Mint , Monza Blue , Spartan Blue ,Indy Orange.

I am not a fan of Vedoro Green, in fact I think its one of the worst colours holden came up with at the time.

Everytime I see a monaro or torana in that colour, I think of the army, YUK.

Its all personal choice I know.

But if you arent going for concourse, I say paint it any colour within the range available for your year that you want to.

Mmm, decisions decisions.

Just for another point of view, sell it and get one of the square ones with the right number of doors.

<Runs & Hides>

Barry, you no matter how good your car, you always get the armchair experts along at car shows. That's why I prefer to just drive mine, can't hear what they are saying. Personally, I don't care what they say about it. I have one, they don't, simple, and I like it just the way it is, well almost.

Pat ,

I had a square one with four doors but it didn't make colour choice any
easier.

Maybe I should get one of those Yes no decision balls that you shake
to get all the answers. :fool:

I agree with HG350, if it is that army colour green, then pick another. One of the most unfortunate colours ever put on a car IMO. Think it was that colour that permanently put me off green cars. I can personally recommend Yella, but you prolly know my bias by now.

ROFLMAO, should be something about Yella cars in the Shannon's ad as well, the dude cracked up when I told him bout the power of yella cars.

I'm another of the "wish i never painted it this colour" crowd..........

Except i painted mine with f***en metalflake which as you can imagine isnt exactly close to being anywhere original.

I originally planned to paint mine an original colour but peer pressure and the fact that the missus wanted a sparkly car in the wedding made me pick the colour i did.

Go with your gut feeling........i was going to go Barbados Green, Ultra Blue or the cars original colour Aquarius and I regret it so much that I didnt go with one of these that i'm taking the car off the road and intending to re-do it.

Us torana owners are pretty lucky there was a nice colour pallette to pick from in the 70's so i'm sure you'll be able to find a nice LC colour to go with if you decide against the original green.

Also on the original green i doubt when the car is finished you'd have any regrets as i'm yet to see an ugly original LC GTR in any colour.

I think that if I had an original GTR it would at least be painted in an original colour or a shade or two different. Personally I think the rarer the colour the better. Therefore V Green would be an easy choice for me.
I also think that because of the age of the cars it is the car itself that most folk are interested in, not the colour. We are talking Toranas here not Commodores.
If you change the colour you need to consider the effect on the interior colour. Might be additional cost.
Finally I like stripes on Toranas so I would get a set of stripes off Barry made in Gold. Against the green this would look trick. :spoton:
Once youve had stripes you never go back

I am sorry but I haven't been keeping up with this thread, just had a quick read then!

A question.... If one wants to stay with an original colour then is one going to avoid 2 pak and go with something more along the lines of original paint finish? eg duco no longer made in original form as far as I know, or maybe acrylic? enamel even??

I am curious 'cos these paints don't seem stand up as well as 2 pak (long term) - read stone chips...so that then plays into originality.

I am not an originality buff so I really don't care but am just curious how far some want to take orginality over todays better methods.

Cheers
Herne

Good point Herne...
Once again I would say that if it a concourse resto.... then acrylic is the go...(original finish)
But if not definately go 2 pac....(better finish)
Right on the durability bit...2 pac is much more durable than acrylic. I guess it is up to the owner to decide which refinishing method suits MOST of his wants.
Keep in mind though that some "mondays expert" will always say "you should have painted it with...blah, blah, blah"
My own experience.... I repainted my LJ XU-1 in acrylic (it's a concourse job) I have since had the race car repainted in 2 pac, now seeing the differnce in the finish between the 2 and how much better the 2 pac stands up to 2 weeks uncovered in the shed, I wish I had painted the XU-1 in 2 pac as well.
When it comes time to repaint the LC XU-1 later in the year it will be definately a 2 pac job, and ths is oing to upset a lot of "purists" because it is a very desirable car...
The bottom line....My car..... my choice! :spoton:

Cheers Greg..

Hi People,

Thought I might throw in a few more responses to the previous
posts . First of all I will definately be going with 2 Pac no matter what
colour it is and my engine bay will by Gloss black rather than the std
semi gloss greyish black . Opps there's concourse out the window already.

Although I will still give Verdoro green a fair go on a test panel I am having
serious doubts since I found heaps of pictures of the colour on the Vic Monaro
club web site. It does depend a lot on the lighting of the pics but most do
look very dark and boring compared to the rest of the LC colours.

With this in mind I will ask this :

Where do you set your colour choice boundries  ??
e.g 1969 to 1971 ( Full LC Range)
1970 (The year of my Car)
or stretch the rules and wonder into the LJ Colours (1973 colours are
very interesting)

I'd only keep it the original colour if you intend to sell it in the future, I believe it will effect the value in the long run as the cars that seem to be commanding the highest resale values are those in original condition (colour) and if I wanted to look original I would paint it in acrylic.

But its your car and if you intend to keep it and pass it on to family etc, then paint it any colour you please and do it in 2 pac for easy maintenance.

that green it butt ugly in my opinion, but each to there own :spoton: :spoton:

Although I would like my car to retain value once restored I intend to be
only parted from it by a pine box. Therefore I think I will take the suggestion
of some posts and get it painted whatever colour I enjoy seeing when I go to the garage. Sorry I think Verdoro Green is out the window.

However GTR paint scheme will remain always stripes etc and eventual colour
will be a factory Holden colour & I will stay with red motors so I at least reflect
the 70's thing.

Thanks for your suggestions ,believe it or not it has helped

Hi Again,

One last comment in case anyone is curious , looking very serious
at Lina Mint green . Looks a hell of a lot better than Verdoro and I
have a very nostalgic connection to it.

Ahh Opps , does that mean I will have to change my login name ??
