Gday all,

I had posted a thread on this on the old forum with updates and it's been a while now.

Just letting everyone know that the Trip to Tasmania in October is still very much on. For those that dont yet know but are interested the trip is from 19th to 30th October. All the accomodation has been organised through a travel agent organised by the club so there's no mucking around to be done. The trip will involve travelling various stages of the Targa Trail as well as a Shannons Car Show in Hobart and also a few sight seeing days thrown in the mix. Ill post the itinerary up soon again when my fingers are ready for the typing in a couple of days. Ill also put the price list up again too. If anyone is interested please let me know. It's getting close to the run now it's all of nine months away. The trip will start in Canberra and involve a trip down to Melbourne where we will board the Spirit of Tasmania which is included in the price. If anyone is interested please email me at [email protected] or contact the club delegate Gary on 02 6297 5699 if your after more info or keen to come along.

Cheers

On Confirmation of your booking you will recieve a set of official reconnaissance notes describing all competition stages and how to find them.
A full set of official stage maps for all competition stages.
Competition questionaire for you to complete whilst touring in order to earn a certificate of completion.
2 Targa Tas T Shirts + 2 Targa Tas caps

Package includes return travel on Spirit of Tasmania in a twin inside cabin with your car included free.
Price at this stage is $945 per person. This may change but only slightly.

All final information will be posted by Feb/March 2005.

Accounts will be set up with the travel company so people can pay their trip of gradually in the next year before the trip.

Interested persons are to write to Gary Harwood to organise booking :

Gary Harwood

Be aware that winter is not a good time - cold, wet and daylight is about 10 hours. Sort of like ACT winter with less snow and ice.

In summer, bring a jumper and raincoat.

But today the weather was just too nice.

Recently read in another post about the lack or no PULP available in Tassie. If that is true it's going to be a big problem I think. Surely this can't be true I know everyone make jokes about the people and place but it cant be that far backward can it

Premium Unleaded is available but not at all stations and some do run out. Shell Ultina and other fuel like that is OUT. You should not have any trouble doing a lap of the state and being able to get premium.

And there are GTVs, BMWs, Porches, Monaros, Yank Tanks and new motorbikes that are supposed to go really fast here and are seen on the roads. AND they are owned and driven by locals.

Gosh - we even have television. And it is full of the carp that everyone without cable or satelite has to watch.

We might be remote but new stuff does come over on the boat - just not the one from Siddy.

No phones here. We just yell out over the back fence and the message gets through.

Bit tricky using the internet though - especially if you are after porn......

Too Nice, I put a post up asking about this trip...

Theres a lot of interest in meeting up with you guys? Has anyone got the date for the shannons car show in Hobart, are you guys going? There has been talk about organising the tassie cars to meet up with you guys on a few days, i think the shannons car show was one on the days as we attend every year.

Would be good to meet a few cars from the forum, Oh and the faces that go with them...

We have heard that the A9X Nationals's were on around that time. Ill chat with Gary as to when the Shannons's car show is on but i think it will be early in the trip. To meet up with the A9X folk would be great especially if we can show up at Shannons with even more toranas. We'll post the final itinerary here very soon so that Tassie locals can see where best to meet up for the day or longer. Numbers are great for this trip. It's looking tops. Big huge thanks to Tinkers for saving me typing too. I'll owe her one when i havnt got RSI in years to come.

Are those departure/return dates set in stone, because it looks like 12 nights/13 days from door to door to me. Has the overall cost changed at all since your original post? I can't wait!

Price is $1000 if your in a triple share. $1100 if your in a double or $1700 if your a single. Contact Potter Travel (02 6297 8585) to arrange a booking. Tell them your travelling with the Torana Club to Tasmania in October.

Trip runs from 19th if travelling from Canberra. Arrive in Tas on 20th. Leave tas on 30th. Arrive back in Canberra on 31st.

This trip has changed. The Shannons Car show was brought forward a week to coincide with the A9X Nationals so we'll be there a bit late which is a shame. However it appears at present that we have 98% certain got a day booked at Simmons Plains. Cost will be approximately $100 per driver. This is not an open track day this is only for people within the group and other torana enthusiasts that want to meet up and let their hair down on the track. If anyone on the forum wants to come along and take to the track please get in contact with myself via email ([email protected]) or Gary ([email protected]) at the club as we will need to let the guys at the track know six weeks in advance exactly how many cars are coming. Even if you dont want to race your torana id encourage you to come along for a day out. The planned day is Thursday 26th October.

Thats it for now. Ill post any additional info here.

Yeah thats the thing to do, we have been there the last two years in a row, and alway have a run on the saturday night around hobart starting from the DEC when all the cars from the north arrive and then go to Joes for a few beers, go to the show on sunday and then head home after the show. Joes Is awesome, Top Place for us rev heads to have a beer, and the cars look awesome when they are all parked in front of the garage,

What date is the shannons car show on this year, and do you have any info on the A9X nationals as I will start sending some info out to people and let them know the dates.

Cheers

It's hard to gauge how many we will get at this stage but we need to know if people intend on going cause we have to make sure we have enough to make it worth while. If youv'e got any friends with toranas that want to come too they are more than welcome. We will have to know numbers soon though. Most people travelling down from outside tassie will most likely be hitting the track. If your interested in coming contact myself at [email protected] or contact Brad in Tassie.
