Bart
MK Blasting at Greenacre did my car. The job was excellent, when they found some repairs they removed the bog so that there was only a peice about the size of a 10 cent peice left so you could tell where it was damaged. Made it easier to repair.

Hey Ian how are ya mate.
I was trying to remember the place you went to, i was about to email you thanks mate.
Did you get my other emails?
One more thing, i cut out the passenger sill, when you did yours (sand blast etc) did you prime your inner sills then coat it with red lead? or just used the red lead?
Sorry mate i know i asked you when you were here but i need to make sure, as im about to clean up my inner sill. :spoton:

if you ask me its worth avoiding.
i did a small section in my boot and the grit just got everywhere.
i cleaned it all out(so i thought),put it on a tow truck and when i got to the destination the car was full of grit again.
it had bounced out of every nook and cranny.

ive heard stories of paintshops laying the paint on only to have sandblast grit start to float through the booth like it was the southpark canned food drive

Yep, I would not sand blast a roof, only panels and parts removed from the car.

We had the whole car blasted and over 5 yrs later i'm still get sand out of my hatch lid. You should have seen how much came out when i turn the vents on the first time, covered both front seats and 1/2 of me, i directed it at the passenger side to blow it all out and couldn't see my seat colours (grey & black) they just looked like red garnet sand paper. But besides that it does a great job striping.

Bead blasting and sand blasting are the same thing, it's just the type of media used to do the blasting. There are sevearl types you can use, sand, glass, plastic, aluminium, wallnut........ At the end of the day, you have the same drama, it gets everywhere. I'd hand sand the roof right back with a good pnuematic orbital sander.

dry ice blasting...without looking it up, i'll assume the theory is it is abrasive when a solid, then quickly turns to gas and evaporates from nooks and crannies???

i recon it would also freeze the metal and make it shrink, only to warp when it warms up again.

Sand blasting sound great to give a perfect surface for painting and bog but ive often wondered when they do underneath how much fills up in the rails. I bet it would be coming out for years.

think thermal expansion / contraction wouldnt be as bigger issue as condensation forming on the fresh metal surface and causing rust everywhere....
