Hello,

Getting back into cars again after a long absence. I have a 4 dr LX torana, a bit of a drama here - was a sunbird but had a 186 and trimatic in when I got it. Look like the 4 cyl mounts with 6/8 cyl welded in. Not a great conversion as the sump was rubbing on the crossmember. Was going to go down 308 route but got a 350/350T combination for a song and I am now looking at that.

I need someone who has been ther and done that who I can commuicate with, ask questions share frustrations etc. I have plenty of time, I do not have to do this tomorrow. I would prefer to get advice and think.

If you can help please feel free to email [email protected] I live in Bridgetown WA.

Cheers

Hi Matey, you're at the right place, just wrong time.... LOL

A few probs with the site at the moment.

There are a tonne of people here, especially in WA who I am sure
will pass on knowledge, and probably even lend a hand. Quite a few
nice builds out of WA recently.

Sounds like a good start to a project.

If you use the search feature, which is a bit fiddly to start with,
there are quite a few articles/threads on engine swaps, and what
is needed to complete them. (lists of items.)

Hang tight, and when the forum is back in to full swing, I'm sure there
will be plenty of help for you.

Welcome to the site.

Cheers, Leakey

Join a Torana Club - Combined Torana Car Club of WA are a good bunch. It makes more sense to join before you start, so you can benefit from help and knowledge during the rebuild.

Dotted around this forum is probably all the info you need regarding front suspension, brakes, engine conversions, etc. As a start, with a Chev conversion, you'd probably be looking at fitting a UC (6 cyl or Starfire 4 cyl, but not Opel 4 cyl) front crossmember and steering rack, HQ onwards ventilated front discs, and a stronger diff assembly, whether it be 9 inch, 10 bolt or Commy Borg Warner.
