Does anyone here know where I can buy AV GAS besides at the airport? I'm told that there are a few large BP stations in Victoria that sell it.

as far as I know AV GAS is not available as it is leaded fuel, there are high octain unleaded racing fuels but they are expensive.

Speedway people must all fly planes, as they always seem to have avgas :D :D :D :D

Avgas can only be purchased if you
1. Have a plane
2. Have an ANDRA race licence and fuel exemption.
3. Have a CAMS log booked car and a fuel passbook

Anyone selling Avgas to you without sighting your proper credentials is breaking the law and most won't do it

litre 8 suggest that there are better alternatives (what are they?)

i lump into my wifes grand cherokee with a 20 litre container ,head down to the airport (xxxxxxxxxxx)and ask the gentleman behind the desk if i can buy some avgas for my son,s remote controll airplane(even though it runs on nitro)and he has given it to me every time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
another thing i heard on the grape vine is that avgas is no longer going to be available in the near future, all that will be is unleaded high octane fuel of some description..........
the bit that is annoying is that the greenies said ther were to many carsenagenics and ugly things in leaded fuel, and the truth is that the additives added to the unleaded fuels is actually worse for you.......go figure !!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you need Avgas ?
What comp ratio are you running?

Surely you can get Optimax Extreme where you are 100 octane.

For my track car I'm looking at possibly using Martini 110
Mixed 50/50 with Vortex will give me just over 103 octane which should do me
But at $5 litre (as a cocktail or $145 for 20L straight) its not exactly a cheap alternative

Avgas is great for washing parts and reading plugs, any ULP can't compete on either activity.

Avgas is pretty hard on plugs with respect to deposits and possible fouling. It has the octane we love but it was also designed to work at very high altitudes so its behaviour at sea level is probably compromised.

correct me if im wrong but wouldnt it work better at sea level? It contains higher levels of oxygen or the ability ot burn oxygen better as at high altitude there is less oxygen? if this is so would it work better on sea level

It's designed for use in planes. Last time I looked, planes don't fly at sea level.

I suspect there are other additives that are targetted to work at hgh altitude, operating at sea level no doubt compromises their design/goals/benefits resuling in things like plug fouling etc.

AVGAS is low lead these days, it's illegal to use on the road $2000 fine per cylinder. If you mix AVGAS with anything at all, it takes away ANY gain you may have had. As for sea level and at heights, forget it, it will make SFA difference. It has additives to stop it from growing mould and icing up, thats all it needs for aircraft use. Those people using it for washing parts, I hope you wear good gloves and a respirator, cause it's not real good for you. Same goes for anyone who thinks it might be cool to get AVTUR to use for kero heaters and things, that will kill you painfully.

AS Litre 8 said, why pay good money for AVGAS when you can buy 100 octane fuels now anyway.
