Stroker Charateristics

I Picked up my New 253 Stroker on the weekend! Im just wondering what sought of things these Stroker Engines do. i Dont know much about the engine as of yet, im getting all the reciepts off the guy soon, so i wil read through it then and work it out. Here is wat i know
Stroked to about 290Ci
Elec Dizzy Curbed to the cam,
Elderbrock Torker Manifold
Balanced and Blueprinted
I guess its had a little bit of Headwork Done aswell.
The stories ive heard from this engine is its blown 2 saginaws and an axle in a 9 inch, so im guessing it has some grunt, i drove the engine once a few months ago and i would say it pulls harder than mild 308's
What i really want to know is, Wat strengths and weaknesses to Strokers have? Do they get good Top and Bottom End? Rev Range? Do they Sound Different? I have never really looked into strokers so all is new to me!
I painted the motor Yesterday so once i get home ill take so pics and put them up... (It just looks like a standard V8 from the outside anyway lol)
Cheers

you have to liken it to a push bike...if the pedals are close to the centre of the front sprocket its hard to get it up and running....but if they are further away you can stand up and really push hard to get it going.
The downside of strokers is that they don't rev as hard as a comparable short stroke engine and they have increased wear due to the angle the conrod pushes the piston.

haha Dont think i have to worry about that, i drove this 253 and it would be chirpin 3rd gear with a 2.78 Diff! it was crazy! My Current engine its hard enough to chirp 2nd haha! I just cant wait to put it in the Hatch and blow away my mates! haha (the main reason i want to change the engine is my mate beat me in his pretty hot 253 Hatch and another mate beat me in a 2.6lt 78 Lancer! Now i can safely say they wont beat me again for a while!i had a mate who brought a 336 stroker for his brock, was so stoked over it kept showing the engine reciept to everyone, had a gork at the numbers, looked at the block, took it for a run, and commented... "aint that engine!"
he finally believed me when it died and we done the post mortem, poor old tiered 308
got so duped lol
MMMMMM Torque! nothing beats that feeling of power right through the revs! LOVE IT!
Pity its been balanced and blue printed, i loved the feel of the lumpy car shaking me around at idle! haha the sacrifices for speed!

Yeh when I bought my motor I was told it was a stroker but I didn't know what to beleive, I could only go off the top end (pulled the heads off ect). It had everything else the guy claimed it did. I pulled the sump and saw holden stamped on the crank and thought I'd been ripped. I later found out that its an offset ground crank. Which is were they modify a standard crank to acheive the stroke increase. I've since pulled the crank out and you can see that its been modified; balance holes and bits chopped off and what not. Only downside is it wouldn't be as strong as a harrop crank etc.
Plus side is that I guess with the smaller strokers (33*), they don't have the same grunt as a 383 or 355, but you still gain a massive torque increase and don't lose as many revs.

Nor will any 304, 308,355,383, unless its supercharged!!!you guys need to go for a drive in a worked big block, no 253 will ever come close in the TQ department.
Big block snot!!!!! once you've tried it you will never go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pity its so hard to register one in a torry though.

should be just as strong to a point,I've since pulled the crank out and you can see that its been modified; balance holes and bits chopped off and what not. Only downside is it wouldn't be as strong as a harrop crank etc.

unless you are going forthe really big horses
plus the offset ground cranks are actually lighter in weight than the harrop and come cranks

My small block 406 has 500 ft/lbs at 4000 rpm. That engine fits into any engine bay and can be registered easy and will pull like a freight train, burnouts in any gear. just look at my avatar. Thats naturally aspirated using a foot brake launch, (just flooring it.)
You dont always need a big block, but I will still have one!! One day!
