Real drop tanks require engineering. What is the go with a fake one, does that need to be engineered? My mind boggles.

As said before, good on you for deciding on something and having a go.

Why would a fakie need engineering? It's just a steel bodykit, I mean a steel stone guard, I mean a weird purposeless diffuser, I mean who gives a shit it's a bit of metal that bares no structual relevance that's trying to rip itself apart once the car speeds up.

It still looks pretty cool, and you could call it a fuel tank stone shield to anyone who dared question it.

Also so far the cheapest I've been able to buy a sheet of 1mm CR sheet of 1200x2400 is $62.50 on the northside of brissy here, Hopefully one day I will find the elusive $35-45 sheets...hehe

Just asking the question mate, wasn't looking to be crucified.

Heath does this mean these new wheel arches on my guards will fall off and tear 'This is only a stone guard'

or how about this rear panel for the tail lights? ' This is only a steel body kit'

Posted Image
Posted Image

or how about these running boards ? ' This is only a weird purposeless diffuser too'

Posted Image

or this frame for my tourer

Posted Image

maybe this whole tourer that I'm building will rip itself apart

Like I said in my first post
the idea was to build a drop tank quicker than asking a question

Maybe I should get your opinon on looks versus practicality next time

woah okay sorry I think you mis-interpreted my post. I worded that really badly. I don't have a problem with what you did at all, I think it's cool, and I have a lot of respect for anyone who goes and tries something without asking any advice (and succeeds!). Please disregard what I said, sorry man, did not mean for it to come out like that.

Pat lol was looking for an appropriate emoticon and I couldn't find anything so I left it blank. Another mistake

I think the tank looks fine. how many ltrs does it hold. lol

are the rear wheels 15x8?

do you have any threads on your other projects?
if not, when are you starting some? like the look of the frame on the tourer.

In WA the dummy tank or any structure/spoiler would have to be within the "Vehicles Departure Angle" to comply with the NCOP. On this basis a picky copy could defect the dummy tank as it is outside the departure angle.

Departure Angle is the greatest angle between the horizontal plane and the plane for the static loaded rear tyres to the lowest, rearmost extremity of the Original Equipment Manufacturer's permanent body work.

Heath ,sorry mate
I took it the wrong way too
I even thought it unusual for you to be knocking it

ls2lxhatch ,the tank was a copy of the one that had the measurement as a sticky on the forum
I thought it was a standard drop tank that yella SLur had measured

I am going to take the car next week to licensing to register it as a V8,
I wont mention the tank and see if they want it removed

It is the same old problem with each state having its own standards. A fuel tank of that design may be legal in other states but I do not think it is legal in WA. You will have to be careful backing out of driveways with the dummy tank.

See page 5 of this document. It is not clear if the departure angle rule applies to body modifications.

Theres 3+ toranas here one of which was recently registered after being bought from the east and they have massive tanks so i don't see issues with legality in w.a
