Got busy in my newly cleaned shed today....I repaired an LH console...the one with the flip up front pocket..that always snaps the hinges. I followed the article about console restoration and got to improvise a bit too. I had another buggered console to chop bits out of and a couple of tubes of Araldite I set about filling the holes, fixing cracks, making moulds for broken corners and gluing hinges back together...at the end of it I painted it in gloss black and (i think) it looks pretty good.

I didn't have a good armrest that was covered in vinyl..I have a couple of good ones in cloth..so on it went...but why are the hinges ALWAYS off centre..I dont think I have ever seen a console lid/arm rest that closes properly.

The front pocket hinges were a bit of trial and error...must have had them on and off a dozen times..but they work well now..you just have to be gentle and don't have the little hinge brackets done up tight...leave them a bit loose.

What do you think?

Looks great :D
Hope the guide was a bit of a help! If you wanted to you could use a silver pen on the holden logo on the lid (the large hinge can be adjusted to some degree with the screws too).

Looks good. I have a few hatchback ones I am going to play with shortly. I have been doing some plastic welding, so far with great success on an original front spoiler. A colsole will be a little harder getting the grain, but I have that one solved too now, just need to practice.

I think the front lid was woodgrain..later painted black..later had felt stuck to it...the only way i could clean the glue off (without going to Bunnings) was petrol...no problem..but when I painted it..it got little craters all thru it where the paint refused to stick..so i wiped the paint off again and decided the black that it is now isn't too bad.

I have another lid here...looks like circles on metal?? Is that meant to be an SLR 5000 thing? Its the original lid off this console..but I think its too stuffed..3 big holes burned thru it.

Petrol has like a wax in it, finish off with thinners next time.

Sounds like SS kingswood to me.
