After some extensive research by Ben Stewart, we can now confirm that early LC XU1's (the first batch) did not have 2815843 cast heads on them.

The heads that were fitted to the early cars are all cast date the same date, but the 2815843 cast number is not stamped on them.

I can just see a dust cloud from the stampede to peoples sheds, wrecking yards and swap meets.

I have one, and I didnt even know it until Ben told me what it was. I've been looking for an XU1 head for my car since I bought it, and the bloody thing had one on it all along.

Shame its not the right one for my car, but at least its an XU1 head.

so what number is on them? or is there no number?

Its a secret

Nuh Just kidding

there is no cast number, thats the secret of the early LC XU1 heads.

But just so no one goes out and machines their casting numbers off, they were all cast up on the same date, and I am not telling.

And just so you guys dont think I have really lost the plot, I have a fair amount of proof to back this up, all supplied by Holden themselves.

machining them off would be no good anyway, because a machined section looks different to a bare cast section.

my eyes are now peeled, looking for heads!

Last two numbers were 43,so it is an XU1 head. What does E 1, 72, 8 mean? There is some other marking after the 8,what is that?

I am sure someone said they had an early XU1 head with no castings on it...then there was a pic of one with XU1 either stamped or cast on it...was it Pip jones?

Hi

E 17 2 = May 17th 1972 otherwise E 21 0 would be May 2 1910 and we know that ain't right
