I convinced my stepson to go classic, well we bought a HG sedan, 186S badge on the back with 75,000 miles, no rust one owner 3 on the tree. Funny thing, it has a cam, extractors and dual carbs. I am sure the carbs are off an X2...did they come with twin strommies?...He replaced the 186 with a 202, fires first time with no smoke so we pick it up tomorrow...another bloody project in the garage..but for $750 I guess I cant complain..back to the carbs..anyone have knowledge on the twin strommies?

If it is X2 carbs it should be a pair of 149 carbs..is there anything specific you want to know? all my books are still packed..might have to rely on memory..heaven forbid!
179 X2 had twin strommies as did 186 X2 before they switched to WW Stromberg 2 barrel and called it the 186S.

X2 went to 186S in the early HR's?

Well we pick it up tomorrow and I will know more then but it has twin strommies on a holden looking manifold so i am guessing it is X2 carbs on a 202.

extractors = more oomph. Twin headers = more original.

Rory when you get the car home post the numbers off the carbs.
They are found directly below the reinforcing bar which is screwed
down on the top of the bowl.
The numbers should start with 23-****

From memory, the HD and HR had the twin Strommy's. Mainly because one of my mates has the setup in his garage. And the car it originally came from.

Hi Guys.

HR 186 X2 (twin BX Bendix-Strombergs) became the 186 S (single WW Bendix-Stromberg) on June 19th 1967 at the same time as the intro of the 4-speed Opel gearbox option.

This would make it late HR.

Its a 202 with a 9 port head, No. 2811930, it has a cam you cant jump over or the carbs are so far out its not funny which could be the case, its blowing black smoke and running rough as.
Louie, carbs are 2376050 on a HOLDEN manifold.

Definitely an X2 manifold. Generally speaking, black smoke out the exhaust means it's running too rich, air cleaners blocked or not enough spark.

Rory the numbers I need are directly below the reinforcing bar.
The numbers are facing the radiator, 23-****
not the number in the circle.
By the looks of you photo on the front carb where your brake booster
hose is.

Lexa,
Email me and I will send some on. [email protected]
Louie,
Back carb is 2376068 and 3/32
front is 2376068 and 5/32
That make sense?

No. The little angle plate which is screwed down from the top with
2 screws at the front of the fuel bowl,
directly below that looking from the radiator (almost underneath that plate)
will be some numbers starting with 23-3***,
NOT 2376068 thats a casting number.
There will be more than likely dirt and grease, its hard to see but not impossible.
By the looks of it there are 2 different size carbys on it.

Go back to the pic...on the left top side of each carb there is a small 1/4 in bent plate held on by 2 screws.....down on the face side of that?

The ventilated air horn gives it away as definately not a 149 carby

It is either under that plate or just on the upper part of
where the centre body meets the top of the carby-
where you have cleaned at top you might have to look
real hard, sometimes they are not stamped real good.
Just to the right of that casting seam.

Hi,
Have a look at the numbers on the throat of the carby,
behind the bolt and nut that holds it onto the manifold,
The numbers should be the same,
If there are different,
the carbs will be nearly impossible to get to run well,
need a matching pair of carbs,
with matching jets,
then it will go well.

Cheers
Chris.
