Yeah, pan must come off, & not sure but I doubt you will get the same thing happening from other sources.Thankyou for supplying the info ^. I take it that the trans oil pan has to be removed to get at the kickdown solenoid. Could anything else cause the same symptoms?
Most common problem is vac line blocked; this wont let the trans shift up too 3rd at all.
There were other things that were checked, but found to be ok.
Rodomo and i did a test drive and tried to force it or stop it by mucking around with the kickdown switch, even removed the wires and it still played up.
When the wires were connected, i could make it kick down by manually pushing the switch so it all seemed to be working.
Basically ran out of external idea's, had to be something internal.
The guy said that the original ones had a habit of doing it! And this was the original Bosch unit.
It was bloody hard to take the photo of the gap on the contact face, but the back face really shows how bad it was.

Ahhh, the web site & info sharing working^ mine was bent like a banana when removed. All seems good now.

May not have saved you the money, but at least you can get the work done with confidence.

Im also having a problem with my trimatic at the moment.
Just installed the manual kickdown (the vaccum one was working but wanted the detent switch as well)
If i have it in drive (doing about 30-40 kays in 2nd) and go to kick it back to 1st it will try to kick back, but just rev out and not change back, like its in neutral.
It kicks back from 3rd to 2nd ok but sometimes won't change (if flat footed) from 2nd to 3rd unless i take my foot off. It will just rev out. This didnt happen until i installed the detent switch at my accelerator.
Is the idea of the manual detent switch to hold it in gear? or will it eventually change? I couldnt exactly try it out as i dont wanna be doing 120 in second down a main road lol.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Mike

Make sure your vacuum line is clear including the connection to the manifold.
Won't pick up 1st on kick-down is a worry though.

^ mine was bent like a banana when removed. All seems good now.
Seems, lol what ever that means, well one thing is for sure it doesn't mean happily ever after, the other day the box started to make a whine in first, like the pump does if the clearance is not right and now and then it would dwell a lil in first, this happened on and off for about a week but now it does not even take off from a standstill in first, it's like a two speed.
Any ideas before it goes into the shop?

Mate of mine was Auto Tranny Mechanic. Always said to add a litre to the Trimatic above the fill line.
That may not help you though.

When I pull it onto first it is like trying to drive with the hand brake on.
