Oooooh, photos of Mick (YiriSS) and Darren (RTS Guy) :P

A bit outdated isn't it? I'd love to see more shots from this year... without huge bloody watermarks. If you wanna sell images, then let people see them properly, and just pay for the large res ones so they can actually see what they're buying.

Did you actuially READ the top of the page or the thread ??

They were on a unused hard drive and I only discovered them last night after being prompted by looking at the pics of Pat's Shannon's ad shoot.

As for the watermarking and small sizes...

1. I am paying for bandwitdh and hard drive space.
2. I have found over the many years I have been doing this that people who are serious about buying images contact us to discuss it..
Those that just want to add to their own collection and copy them images whinge about the watermarks..
We are just protecting our intellectual property..

Perhaps you can spend Thousands of dollars on camera equipment and drive all around the country to all the events, and take pics for everyone to leech.

When these dudes do such a damn good job, I wouldn't even mind if there was a watermark or discreetly placed copyright on the finished product. You don't learn to take pics like these overnight, and credit is fully deserved. The arts provide a benevolent existance at best, we so undervalue art and artists in this country.

I agree; I like to see who's taking the photos. If I really like them I might talk to the people who took it and pay them to take my car out for a photoshoot one time.

I hope you're not having a go at me about the art thing though Pat. I don't tag my airbrush work... yet. And no, when I do it I'm not gonna put lines across the whole page either.

PS The watermarks in the Toranafest photos are fine, the ones in some of the other ones pissed me off, understandably.

Not at all, was involved in the Arts in a previous life. I know how tuff it is. In the same breath you also get a fair few baddens so pays to look around for good artists, but they came in all shapes and forms.

The image that i purchased from badger Photography has a tasteful watermark in the bottom corner. I'm sure youve all seen the picture of my car doing a burnout at WSID.

THey took teh photo and even though i paid them a fee to buy the electronic image, they still wanted to retain the copyright to it. Fair enough! For what i paid i'm MORE than happy with that.

Its their lively hood.

Had a big reply al typed out but F&^%ing OC crashed...

Anyway, in a roundabout way all I can say to you Heath is...

* My prices are more than fair for the quality and services we offer.
* I do not watermark images that are purchased.
* I do not watermark prints that are purchased.
* I seldom retain copyright on any digital image I sell.
* I don't make lots and lots of money from this venture.
* It costs me around $10,000 per year to attend the events and provide all the services I do

SO.....

If you are upset because I Watermark images heavily for some events and that does not seem fair to you because I don't offer you a site to leach Hi-Res images from - TOUGH SHIT, I run a business to make money, so I can attend more events, buy more/better equipment and NOT to supply kids with and endless supply of free desktop images.

End of Rant.

I used to watermark pics I took with the STC symbol when they were going to go onto the STC website.

At least if they are pinched, it's good advertising.
The way Photographic Copyright works everyone, is that the photographer automatically aquires the copyright on taking the pic.
Therefore if you "borrow" it, and someone else "borrows" it from you they can be sued for breach of copyright.

If a photographer stands to make a large dividend from a particular pic or series (eg. GP, racing accidents, etc) it is in their best interests to watermark any pics they take.

Goto www.autopics.com and you will see how heavily they mark their photos, and still some have turned up in ebay ads, etc.
Biante now watermark their pics for the same (ebay) reason.

Jase and Jade make their living from this work, and have every right to protect their livelyhood.
Please don't take offence at Jase's comments as he is very passionate about his work, and doesn't want to line anyone elses pockets.

Grant..

PS. Does that qualify me for a free shoot guys? hehehehe :P

hahaha I was waiting until you guys saw it. Southo, i respect you as a professional, as with Jade. You don't have to defend yourself about watermarking images, you're perfectly in the right. I use photos like that as picture references, my Torana desktops are all photographed by me.
