I've been using the commodore filter on my 202 for a few yrs now, i have never had a problem and in fact its easier to change filters due to its smaller diameter!

My vote goes to the bigger filters... I'm like Brewster! I shop at the cheap places for parts like this that dont really seem to make any difference at all!

Not that you can see.....

Its pretty easy to see that a filter produced to a cheaper price is at least more likely to have used lesser quality materials. OK some brand's marketing costs and retailer margins will add to the end price, but a product with a lesser quality filter medium is surely a risk, even if you change your oil more often.

From a filter manufacturer site:

Today, most low-cost disposable spin-on oil filters use cellulose filter media. Better quality oil filters use synthetic media, while top end oil filter use "MicroGlass" or extremely fine metal mesh.

You might laugh but Struggler replaced the white filter on mine after run in period with the Repco black one, why you ask?

Well, the black one is colour coded to my block and looks so much neater. I spotted this and commented to Struggler how much nicer the black one looked in my engine bay.

Cheers

If you really cared about filtration, you wouldn't leave it just to a spin on filter anyway.

About "Valvoline" oil filters,I will no longer use them.Had one on my VL 6cyl.Driving along one day and the oil light comes on and the engine starts to tick and rumble.I am on the freeway but stop and check oil level etc. Its ok.Not wanting to leave the car there,I drove it another 5 km all the time the engine sounding F$#*&^%$#D.Put new valvoline filter on,it was all i could get and still no good.I got a Ryco ,put it on and the noises stopped and got oil pressure instanly. The I think the Slick 50 did its job but thats another thread.car is still going fine.
