i'm only new to this site & my question may have been answered before, can someone tell me witch book would be the best to buy ( if there is a book ) to help look at identifiying id tags as im looking to purchase either a gtr or gtr-xu1,as i already own an lc gtr look-alike with a chev 383 mainly used for drag racing i would like something for the street.

Best bet would be to PM HG350 with the tag numbers and they can then check for you.

i'm assuming the car is currently red? If it is then the
1F-075 is the code for Marinello Red, which is a 1981
Holden colour according to the Berger book. Looks like
someone was wise enough to leave a reference for
future repairs :spoton: .

yes correct it has recently been painted red, i thought the previous owner didnt like metalic orchid ( # on id tag ) hence the red paint, why would it have two different paint codes

as grant said, its alot easier to match paint for repairs when a very smart owner has stamped the new colour code onto the tags, saves standing around the panel shop paint matching :)
