Gonna put the 9 inch diff in on Friday or saturday and i am wondering do i have to have the bump stop thats sits above the diff centre? The reason i ask is it looks as though there wont be enough room for it with the size of the new diff. I still have the ones that sit inside the springs.
Any one have this problem? Is it roadworthy to take it out or cut it down?

For RWC, all bumpstops must be fitted and not tampered with.

Are you reffering to the pinion snubber ? Sits above the pinion yoke ?

You can remove it if you like, more important in leaf spring applications (such as the Ford it came out of) that are prone to spring windup. Not so vital in a Torana. If you want to keep it you can modify it as you like, it is not a rego prerequisite.

According to the LH service manual, "A pinion nose bumber is bolted to the underbody on 4 cyclinder "S" and all "SL" models" Perhaps they had too much spring travel?

my hatch had it, originally a 4, took the tow bar off and "what the uck is that!"
Unbolted it and piffed it, wasnt impressed with it anyway, gold car with a bright orange diff??? really makes you wonder peoples thinking with stuff like that.

Siiiik Maaaaate....

I reckon they think that theyve got $10 spare and that shoudl buy me 5 cans of "export" paint from supercheap...and that my brake callipers, hubs, diff etc would look SIIIIIK and "Induhvidual" if i coated them in the lairiest colour i can find...

But thats just my opinion ;)

My budgie has the stop bolted above the pinion but my LX SL 202 doesnt, no threaded holes at all for it.

Strange why they put it on the 4 bangers?

I retained mine, fits nicely with the 9" diff, doesnt foul and its only 2 bolts to take it off if it ever gives me trouble.

Yeah not sure if it will hit. I will find out on Saturday. If it does at least i know i can remove it. At the moment though it looks like it is in the way ( time will tell)

Thanks again Guys and Gals

Well what do you know, It does fit!
Looked a little suss there while dropping the car back down, but it must have about 2 inch clearence to the pinion so it's staying unless i feel it hit when i finally get to drive it.
thanks peeps
Mick
