gday all,

I am planning to see if i can get me a nice Red Head for my 202 at the upcoming Ballarat swapmeet so i was wondering if some people could help me out with what i should be looking for. If you have some pics of heads, showing ones with unleaded valve seats, or porting and what it looks like with and without could you please post them?

Also this maybe a huge ask, but does someone have a list of all the ID numbers for the Red heads?

thanks

Steve

I have a spare Red 202 and Trimatic sitting in my garage. Has LH - UC, HQ - WB sump. I have an engine crane and can deliver the engine/trans to your door. Or garage/ carport etc. Interested?

Thanks for the offer Chopper but no thank you. :)

I already have a complete JL 202 and a Trimatic. I was looking more towards a head that has been ported and fitted with the unleaded valve seats and valves. Maybe even a Yella Terra Head. ;)

Basically i was looking for some people to be able to post some pictures so that i can go down the swapmeet on friday and know what i am looking at. I don't want to pay $$ for a 'ported' head and get it home and find out that its a stock head. Or have someone tell me its a Yella Terra and find out its not.

thanks

Steve

Someone around here has that head list, I remember him giving someone else very specific info. I would also appreciate this list being posted, even to put it in a sticky at It comes up all the time.

I think I would be asking him for better photo's :) esp of the chambers and valve seats, how long ago was it built and how long since it has been used. those sort of questions.

Cheers

Thanks Herne. I thought the pics were a little grainy.

One thing to look out for on a red head any not necessarily ported is if the head has been decked too much. There is a tab (a unmachined part) on the edge which is not far from the mating surface and is positioned in the middle. If it has been decked too far, so is useless, this tab will also be machined, well this is what my engine reconditioner said.
That said pull the head off your 202 and have a look at it, maybe use some verniers to check sizings etc. Number one is the cast post for the head bolt, make sure is has ground out and sleeved. Also check for larger valves and then any porting and smoothing.
