Noel Gould Holden Dealer was LEX.900 (82911JL202297) first owner going off its first ever Vic Rego Papers.

Now going off its Chassis Number ALJ05412A
i would say it was Built on the 26/5/1972
Body Number would Roughly be 431-A
Bazza could help here ??????????

The Police Station that First Vic Rego was done at,Looks to be Dandenong Vic
Who ever Bought it from Gould Holden Dealer, had it Under finance with G.M.A.C Financing,Dandenong

Hi XU2308

L202297 was one of 2 GTRs and 5 XU-1s in a batch. While the statistical Body Number would be 431-A, the 7 consequetive Body Numbers would be spread through the batch randomly (ie 429-A to 435-A) I would suggest that the completion date would be the 11th or the 12th in keeping with the other 3 XU-1s whose competion dates do appear.

Did you notice the next car on the disc L202298? It is also an XU-1 with no completion date and also going to Gould (385) during 7/72.

Cheers

Bazza

A 11/5/72 or 12/5/72 so second week into May1972 ok

Three pink V8s was rumour and innuendo, but it's good to see the rego details for the known one are there - would be great if it turns out the rego continued after the supposed crash tests........

I Guess my question to the above with no disrespect to Grant is... what proof is there that it was a V8 that was crash tested at the PG (proving ground) in the first place and why???(some will understand what I mean) ...second I think you will find that the car was possible re rego'd after 81 and beyond with a different rego, the only way to follow it is via chassis the numbers which is near impossible or find out who was the dealer principle at the time, w/shop manager and or staff...etc to find an avenue of vehicle ID as who would forget o/oo/oo build date ???

Why you....:P no worrys mate. It's not something that has been pulled out of the air.

The Official story as portrayed by Holden, Harry Firth and in many books published over the years, is that the V8s were crash tested, a) to find out the actual test results, b ) to destroy the chassis so they couldn't be reused, and c) to close out the whole Supercar Scare altogether.

Some list the cars as converted back to sixes beforehand, others state they were still in V8 trim.

But as asked, the proof is written and verbal from Holden and Harry. Unfortunately, too many things are now being contradicted to allow all the "official" information to be 100% correct. Allan, myself and others agree with the notion that they would have tried to get some money back by sixing them and selling....... Harry and Holden said that Saggy Sarah and 24C didn't leave holden in one piece for example..........

Ok, pulled the plate off my Car and it has the numbers/letters as follows:

Looks like a big L, followed by a 9, and what looks like 771. Now I don't know what that all means, and it is a bit hard to read, so if any-one there can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers.

Hi GlennM

Welcome to the Torana forum. Are you talking about the ADR plate? Do you have a Body Number and a Chassis Number (to narrow down the search). PM me if you don't want to post on the open forum.

Cheers

Thanks Bazza, the # is the one on the back of the ID plate. ALJ01748B, 2/72 build. I think it may be a SMP XU-1, trying to confirm.

Glenn.

Hi was reading the article in aus muscle cars about smp toranas ,I own 2 x72 lj xu-1s that are both glacier white and a third shitbox with tags missing but was a metallic green colour xu-1,and my brother has daytona bronze lc gtr, anyway i know of a genuine lj gtr smp car that is sitting at a house which the owner dosn't know its true colour and thinks its a genuine xu-1 because it has a spoiler ,but i have looked at the car and it is a gtr smp 72 model,I know the person who owned it 20 years ago when it was pink, and they told me they stripped all the paint and I would not find any pink but i did behind the heater box that has been removed by the current owner,so that is another one to add to the list if you want more info I can revisit and get some details, bye Trent.
