After someone to straighten body (no rust, bare metalled) and spray (paint supplied).
Want a good job but am not interested in paying $10k as some shops have suggested.
I think my panelbeater has lost interest due to sickness/injury etc and he cannot get another panelbeater to help him with the workload.

My original quote weld in flutes, spray etc was $4k (have paid $1500) (note i did all the bare metalling, cut rust out, supplied replacement panels etc) so it was actually weld in replacement panels, straighten ripples and paint.

Anyone got any suggestions for a quality painter that doesn`t want the earth to do a good job?
Ta, M

Im after the same mate. there are a few awesoem shops like vulcan panel and paint but they charge a massive amount. It might be worth while ringing a couple of the ads in the front of the quokka motoring section. They advertise like 2 pac resprays for 1500. Give it a go and tell me how they seemed

Quality = Money. No wonder your panelbeater lost interest if he only quoted 4k. Work out the hours needed to do a minor all over panel job and respray and you will understand why 4k doesn't even come close to what the real cost should be.

They do 60 mph paint jobs any faster it starts peeling off.71xu1 has hit the nail right on the head.

My hatch needs painting which was why I replied and was hoping for recommendations.

Last quote I had done was in Brisbane for $10K and that was nearly 4 years ago so I'm guessing what I want done is alot higher again.

to be honest i know of a couple of people trying to get their cars painted and most quotes have come back at 25k, some of the cheaper ones have been about 10k, none cheaper then that as yet

From what I have seen the difference between a $10,000 paint job and
a $25,000 paint job is the profit margin.

The price will depend of a lot of things, how much prep work has to be done or been done and how much as to be redone to fix the stuff ups, rust removal, if the car has been stripped, just a respray, inside only or outside or colour changes or same colour etc etc etc And my favourite, how fussy the painter is.

I know of a painter that did a car at last count 7 times as he wasnt happy with the job so he redid it. The first few times even with him pointing out the blemishes you couldnt pick them.

I know it's not relative as everything is new but what would be the "cost" to paint a VE coming off the line?

I do not know what it costs to paint a VE coming off the line but I would not pay for a paint job with that much orange peel.

Ha! Ha! I agree. It always intrigues me though how the factories pump out these paint jobs and there are a million threads on here about preparation.

71xu1 It was his quote not mine - he should do it for that as it was his quote!

I am sorry but I dont agree that $10k is the right amount for a car that basically need some ripples removed and painting - thats all.
Prior to all the work done i was quoted $10k by a couple of shops, that was with rust, 4000 layers of paint etc etc; all the hard work is done!

I think that $5000 a week is a little rich; thats assuming it`ll take 2 weeks which i dont think it would. (IMHO)

I may be wrong but if thats the case i`m going to do it myself; if i stuff it up then i can redo it and still be in front.

Panthervs - lol, I dont think i`ll give it a go - ha ha test bed Lj - i did see them but geez tooo cheap, thanks anyway.

I`m with u Tinks waiting for a reply.

A mate just let me know of a place so i`m going to see them in the next 2 weeks, i`ll let u guys know; he had a classic vintage car he got done and he was happy.

Cheers M. Ps please don`t slam me for my opinions - people seem to get a little overly passionate sometimes on here. :)

Not trying to slam you for your opinion or others. But having been in the panel and paint trade for many years I have seen so called value jobs and at the end of the day you only get what you pay for. 5k a week = rent, materials, equipment spray booth(70K min) fuel to run the booth plus filter changes, PPE, wages it all adds up. If you are going to do it yourself in two pak just make sure you look after yourself use the correct PPE two pak is nasty stuff.

My car is getting done at the moment will be ready in 2 weeks. I got mine for 8k there wasnt to much rust to repair. Basically i gave him a stripped car no motor interior etc. he sanded it back, fix the little bit of rust, smoothed the engine bay and will be fitting the flair kit. I cant complain it has only taken him almost 3 months and he is a top guy. He has also had his car in street machine that he painted 9 years ago and had heaps of the jobs he has done in perth street car.
Hope this gives u a ball park figure

I got my Torana done for 3.5K in 2-pac.... all the panel work was basically done but they still had to prep all the panels... I supplied it as a completely stripped bare rolling shell and they did engine bay, door jams and everything.. was a good job too although it was 3 years ago...

I just finished a paint course at tafe and they will paint your car for $2k! the apprentices work on it but your garanteed a good job cos if they f*ck it up there made to strip it and do it again...
