I got my Torana done for 3.5K in 2-pac.... all the panel work was basically done but they still had to prep all the panels... I supplied it as a completely stripped bare rolling shell and they did engine bay, door jams and everything.. was a good job too although it was 3 years ago...

I just finished a paint course at tafe and they will paint your car for $2k! the apprentices work on it but your garanteed a good job cos if they f*ck it up there made to strip it and do it again...

??? What tafe and who do I talk too ???

cheers :)

I was quoted about 15k a few years ago for mine, not looking forward to finding out what the price is now!
a few years is how long i have had it booked in too and yes it is still going to the same bloke in about 2 months HOPEFULLY!
good 2 pac paint will cost you about 4k just for the paint, primer etc

I work in the smash repair industry & it comes down to hourly rates. My shop charges $90 an hour however some shops will charge more, some less. I worked in a dedicated restoration shop once & the hourly rate was $120 an hour.I can't see how any shop could make profit on a respray for $1500 when I paid that just for the base coat, clear coat & hardners/reducers for my car but then I guess it comes down to the adage "you get what you pay for". If your a hands on type try & do as much of the work yourself & if in doubt ask someone in the know, i'm always willing to give anyone advice from my experience in trade, I will be starting the body restoration on my LH SLR soon & will try to post pics as I go along, with descripions of what I'm doing & the methods I use. Getting the car to the undercoat stage yourself will save you alot of money,80% percent of the work involved in respraying a car is in the preperation & at the end of the day nothing beats the satisfaction of knowing that you,ve done most of the work yourself.

iv scoped out a few places round perth for panel and paint when i got mine done. as people have already said, theres not to many people even interested in doing the that work to older cars, too time consuming, not enough money in it for them. panel beaters can make more money doing the easy insurance jobs, un bolt panel, bolt on new panel, quick spray, jobs done. To even have a reasonably straight and decent job, not much chance of getting it done for less than 10k, people may not see it, there is a shit load of work to get a car even looking decent straight. just be careful bout the tafe thing i have heard doggy panel work, and heavy use of bog, by tafe students. im not saying all are bad, just do your homework. money is quality, and the spray job is only as good as the panel and prep work before you spray.

Well I FINALLY got my car back after being unable to contact him for 6 months " as his phone went thru the wash and he lost all his numbers".

Turned up with a car trailer one week and he wasn`t there.

Told me he would put in primer for me to protect it, picked it up with runs all over it and bare patches under bumpers and sills.

And lo and behold my bonnet scoop has gone missing, may be at his house he thinks! But he`ll get it to me. Wont hold my breath.

What an ass!

I wont be taking it around panel shops for awhile as I am going to dummy fit everything and the stock market has taken 40% of my money so will have to sit tight.

The 2yr saga continues, sigh.

If anyone is looking at getting panel/paint work done in the Kelmscott Industrial area and the guy is fat with a beard, name starting with B be warned.

I also work in the paint game and here is one of my projects that was just completed.

My son and I did this job as a cashy at home and we charged the guy $8000.00 to do this car, the cost of the paint came out of the price as well as the new vinyl roof thanks to a mate in the trade.

The total cost of materials at trade prices was $1200.00 approx and this car took nearly 8 litres of 2k top coat as it was huge, painted inside and out.
There was rust and the sunroof was also filled for this price, took 1 month to complete after hours and it paid for my Torry project to get started so im happy with that.

Im just letting you know that you can get a good job for reasonable money.

Here she is the 1978 Ford Thunderbird wieghing in at 3800kg with a 460 V8 for the power plant.

impact panel and paint did mine. he is the only one touching my car now. did a great job, exactly how i wanted mine to turn out. took bout 2 half months. cost bout $7k but for what he did, i think it was worth it, i did most of the rust repair which he thinks saved me bout 3k. he even broke it down, told me the costs, just materials no labour was $3000 to $3500. so as was previously mentioned how can people make a profit charging $4000 for a paint job. end of day you get what you paid for.

Sean ( Impact Panel and Paint ) built a new workshop in Malaga and moved in earlier this year. Someone then made an offer to good to refuse to buy the new workshop. The workshop was sold and the search for a new workshop began, I have heard that Sean is now back in business in Malaga.

I think this is the new address.
