I nearly sold the Torana back in 2005 cause i was bleeding so much from the petrol prices (I was spending $150 a week on fuel and only earning $200!) but gas saved me then and i was hoping i could do the same now.

Thats exactly why i stated if petrol prices are a concern then I would NOT be looking at any V8 - regardless what figures you get a smaller engine will generally do better.

Luckily my Torry is not my everyday driver.

Cheers

Do you feel the LPG price is going to match petrol soon

I heared at some stage, the gov is going to bump up the tax on Gas, just had to suck everyone in with the gov grant to get gas first.

Excise has already started on LPG. It will go up 2.5c/L each year until it peaks at 12.5C/L in 2011. This is still way less than the 38c/L excise they currently have on petrol.

The Krudd government was going to cancel the $2000 grant, but reconsidered when the greenies pointed out that LPG had a lot less CO2 emissions & it was better for our international trade balance.

LPG is definitely the way to go in Australia at 60-70c/L. We are totally self sufficient in LPG & its cleaner & safer. Even when the price does increase, history has shown that it has always been around 50% that of petrol, or less. With inflation it will one day be $1.00/L, but by that time petrol will be well over $2.00/L.

Modern LPG injection systems will give the same economy & performance as petrol, certainly a lot better than old Impco mixer systems. It can also be tuned to even give more performance because it has a higher octane rating.

One of my cars is a 1999 WH Statesman V6 on an electronic vapour (not injected) LPG system. Last weekend I drove to Cessnock & return & used $19.00 worth of LPG to do just over 300 km. OK, about 70% of the driving was on the freeway, but would you ever consider using petrol or diesel on a modern car with figures like that.

my car is a s3 vs ute with vx motor an a getrag 5 speed i get around 540-570 out of a 63ltr tank when i go away fishing so most of that is on the high way, an during the week im a courier and get around 210 out of half a tank.

as for working on them i have done everything my self except for tha clutch as had no where to do it.

cost of parts is not to bad except for some parts, for example to replace a front hub a new one is $300

2000 VTII, V6 Auto, easily got over 750Kms out of a tank highway driving at any speed with 2 or 3 people in it fully loaded. About 28 mpg. Was an excellent car, traded in for $6500 - sad to see it go.

2002 VY, SV8 Auto, havent done a whole tank in one go yet, but the computer says I should get bit over 700Km on a tank.

Coming home from Rocky a few weeks ago, 550 kms, got 26 mpg, sitting between 110-130kph, by myself, couple of ports in boot, so not all that bad.
Did 3 trips in her around the 500-650 km's, 22, 25 and 26 mpg each time. The 22 mpg had about 150kms driving around the Sunshine Coast included in it ...

Both cars were/are real poxy around town. Doesn't worry me tho as I dont drive much when home. Filled up the SV8 after that Rocky trip 4 weeks ago and still got 3/4 of a tank left, LOL.

You'd better drive to Toranafest to test the highway consumption, Matt :tease:

Tim

HAHA! Looks like we will be testing this out after all! Anything over 600k's out of the tank i'll be happy! That will mean <10L/100km's

Matt mine takes 68 litres, does your only take 60?
I have run it to empty and filled up 63litres etc
mine also has the full trip computer as per calais etc and shows how much fuel is left and kms to go till empty etc.

freeway driving you should get around 9 to 9.5 L/100 at least. thats what i got to S.A and back anywy

Apparently, the ute has 70L tank, but the most i have ever put in was 65L i think. That was saying it was Empty with 0 K's to go... LOL. I'd be happy to get it at around 9L/100kms. Pity my OTR and tune hasn't been done yet, because i could have seen figures around 8! LOL. Not to worry!
