I'll bet it actually says QT if you look really close...and that makes it HQ era...the cast date on the block will give its exact date for you..post the numbers up if you don't know how to read the code..its near the timing cover.

Being a QT makes it an aussie pattern.

the number on the block is OT 9944*

I looked super hard at the 'O' and its definitely an O not a 'Q'

This is a 308 out of a WB statesman with the turbo/chev bolt pattern. You can see where the aussie bolt holes are cast but not drilled.

Is it QT9944x or QT9944xx ?

The first one is HQ and will definitely be a 4spd block. The second is mid 1978 HZ and could be either 4spd or Chev pattern.

One easy way to tell is by the dowel size. Holden is small, Chev is huge. And you can pick it from the front too.

If it has an OT prefix it's either been decked and you've lost some number depth hence the Q looks like an O or it's been restamped incorrectly. Holden didn't use I or O in the letters on engine numbers or casting dates so it's not a mis-stamp.
