at a quick glance without the files in front of me I'd say no thought the G70 makes me wonder. I will check when I get home. something does not look right to me, the lack of a T in the VIN has me wary too.

Being a Sept 1977 i would have thought a H for the year code?

correct, I think i may have come across this one before, the trimcode is no good either, pip, can you tell me any more about it? You can PM me if you like, it sounds familiar.

Certainly NOT an A9X, no A9X started J58. The numbers do NOT add up at all for anything, it should be 8D69THJ585085X for a car built in the month of 9/77 with a 308, not 8D6910GJ585085X. As I said, I think this one has popped up before. Can you show any pics or tell me any more details? It says it's mandarin red, but no A9X was made in that colour with that trim combination. I'd say some dodgy tags there

Hehe, its awesome too see someone like REDA9X so passionate and knowledgable on these cars that it would be almost impossible to build a fake A9X nowadays and expect to get away with it.
I bet the GTHO/GT falcon and Morris Cooper S owners wish they had someone like RED 15 yrs ago!!!
Love your work!!

Some feedback or verification of the characters on the tags may have been useful for the forum?

I'm not sure what more feedback I could give, nothing even comes close. Maybe a full breakdown of every number and code?
J585085 is too early for A9X, yet it's a 9/77 build, no SLR5000's were made after 8/77, so that doesn't match, it contadicts itself espeially when you see G on the VIN plate, indicating it was made prior to sep 77.
No A9X was made in mandarin red with siena trim
I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot barge pole.

Thanks for the reply. Feedback was directed at pipjones. Would be interested in particular if the engine code was 10 for example or just an error in recording. Also with G70 diff code compared to what it actually had in the car?

i looked at the same car at sandown last year ,check the weld in patch under the floor as it has been but welded (oxy nice job too) in instead of being overlaped and spotwelded, also according to a good source it came from suttons in sydney and they were passing of lesser cars as A9X,s there is also a hatch getting around the same deal pip,i have spoken in great lengths with the person who has the car at the moment give me a call if you want some more info in it cheers glenn
